After your successful graduation from the Product Academy, you will transition into a full-time member of the Wise Product team!

Job Description

We’re seeking a skilled Business Operation Lead to accelerate and strengthen our internal resilience for our expansion plans in Japan. This is an unique and exciting pioneering opportunity to grow Wise in Japan, allowing millions more potential customers to save money by using our services.

This is not your typical operation role. You are responsible for streamlining the business operation framework, mitigating any operational failures and external communications with the central bank and payment network. Through your work, you will have the ability to directly influence our product capabilities in Japan.

What will you be doing?

  • Banking Operational Projects: Develop, streamline and document end-to-end banking operation procedures, ensuring clarity and compliance for Payment Operations agents.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Payment Operations team and various teams to meet all operational obligations and enhance process efficiency.
  • Inquiry Management: Serve as the primary contact for daily inquiries from the central bank and payment network directly and solve/enhance operations. 
  • Audit Coordination: Lead and coordinate audits from the central bank by working collaboratively with various internal teams to ensure compliance and robustness.
  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships not only with the central bank and the payment network, fostering trust and transparent communication but also internal teams to make sure to build a strong operation framework.
  • Project Initiatives: Take the lead on the banking projects aimed at streamlining business operations, including contract management and operational process improvements.

Qualifications

Must have:

  • Japanese native speaker residing in Japan and fluent in English.
  • Experience in Banking operation, banking regulation, or payments in a fast paced professional environment.
  • 7 years of working experience, preferably in banking/payments operation.

Good to have:

  • Track record in operational excellence and want to grow further.
  • Able to get stuff done and decision making independently. Not afraid to get your hands dirty to deliver what is needed. 
  • Able to understand financial, payments and FX regulations in a changing regulatory environment and have an interest in AML/CFT and risk controls.
  • An analytical and critical thinker, and problem solver. You have the ability to figure out the ideal operational and commercial processes.
  • Excellent at managing external relationships as well as internal relationships 
  • Able to understand regulations, and make pragmatic, risk-based decisions on how these need to be implemented
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • You are willing to travel to our global offices as needed
