About the team and the role:
Advertising is one of the fastest-growing, high-priority areas at eBay, and the Ads Platform team sits at the heart of this transformation. We build the core infrastructure that powers all of eBay’s advertising products — from Promoted Listings to the recently launched Promoted Stores. Our mission is to deliver scalable, high-performance systems that drive visibility for sellers and create engaging ad experiences for buyers.
As a Software Engineer on the Ads Platform team, you’ll help shape how eBay connects millions of buyers and sellers through advertising. This is a high-impact, full-stack/backend role where your contributions will directly influence ad delivery systems that handle billions of daily events, drive significant revenue, and enable strategic growth across eBay’s marketplace. You’ll report into a seasoned engineering manager and collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and cross-functional engineers across the globe.
What you will accomplish:
-
Design and build scalable, low-latency systems that power real-time ad delivery for millions of eBay users.
-
Contribute to core infrastructure for Promoted Stores, campaign management, tracking, and publisher integrations.
-
Apply clean code principles and test-driven development to deliver production-quality software with high reliability.
-
Collaborate across product, engineering, and platform teams to integrate seamlessly with publishing surfaces and business logic.
-
Promote a culture of engineering excellence, including internal open source contributions, best practices, and code reviews.
-
Grow your expertise in distributed systems, functional programming (Scala), and full-stack development through real-world learning and mentorship.
What you will bring:
-
1+ years of experience in software development, ideally in backend or full-stack roles.
-
Proficiency in Java, Scala, and familiarity with functional programming concepts (e.g., Cats, Monix, ZIO a plus).
-
Experience with streaming and batch technologies such as Kafka, Spark, Flink, or Hadoop.
-
Exposure to web services and client technologies (Android, iOS, or web) is a strong plus.
-
Solid understanding of data structures, distributed systems, and layered architecture.
-
Strong communication, ownership mindset, and the ability to thrive in cross-functional, agile teams.
