About the Role:
Wing is looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join our Ground Systems Engineering team based in Palo Alto, CA.
This role will directly contribute to building and scaling the systems that enable safe and efficient drone operations worldwide, specifically focusing on our commercially-facing services and uncrewed air traffic management. You'll work on complex challenges at the forefront of aviation and technology, helping to get Wing's drone delivery into the hands of more partners and customers. Our mission in Ground Systems is to build safe, reliable, and scalable systems with a detail-oriented mindset, allowing our business to expand while always delivering a customer-first experience. This position seeks highly-motivated individuals who enjoy working in a highly dynamic and collaborative team environment. A successful candidate is able to demonstrate full project ownership, from strong backend software design to fast paced implementation following industry best practices. We’re looking for people who are intrinsically driven to collaborate on hard problems, drive simple solutions, and take ownership over their work.
What You’ll Do:
- System Design & Development: Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain large-scale, distributed software systems including: asynchronous pipelines, database systems, RPC handlers in collaboration with frontend engineers and backend engineers, in a privacy and security conscious ecosystem.
- Performance & Reliability: Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, implement monitoring solutions, and improve system reliability, availability, and latency.
- Incident Response & On-Call: Mitigate, root cause and resolve urgent, time sensitive issues, in both familiar and unfamiliar software, as part of an on-call rotation, or other escalations.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate cross functionally with product managers, and program managers to design, implement and quickly launch new features for partners and end consumers.
- Team Culture: Contribute to team culture of support, engagement and quality, ensuring Wing can scale as a business.
What You’ll Need:
- 1-6 years of experience designing and developing backend software.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a similar degree (or equivalent experience).
- Proficiency in C++, or ability to quickly pick up C++ with experience in similar languages like Java, or C.
- Excellent written and verbal skills and experience working in a collaborative team.
- Ability to identify challenging problems and potential solutions with guidance from a mentor, and work toward them with a high degree of independence.
- Experience developing backend systems involving database schema design, and synchronous/asynchronous systems.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is the salary range below + bonus + equity + benefits. Wing’s salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your location during the hiring process.
