Fincons is looking for a Backend Software Engineer – Senior
TASKS:
- Enhancement and maintenance of the OS-LISFLOOD suite, including performance optimization, repository management, input data preparation, user support, and documentation updates.
- Management and quality control of meteorological data for EFAS and GloFAS, covering data collection, extraction, analysis, gridding, and validation processes.
- Support to the CEMS Meteorological Data Collection Center, including deliverable review, quality assurance improvements, and technical documentation development.
- Maintenance and development of geospatial databases for EFAS and GloFAS, including system updates, security enhancements, WFS implementation, and new feature development.
- Technical documentation, stakeholder collaboration, and communication of results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Python development and maintenance of modular scientific software, including code testing and enhancement of open-source solutions.
- Hydrological and scientific computing expertise, using OS LISFLOOD tools and libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, Xarray, SciPy, scikit-learn and Numba.
- Management and processing of geospatial and scientific data, including formats such as NetCDF, GRIB, PCRaster and GeoTIFF.
- Database and GIS technologies, including PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Oracle, MS SQL Server, WISKI and basic GIS knowledge.
- Containerized and scalable environments, leveraging Docker, Kubernetes and High-Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructures.
- Software development and operations tools, including Git, DVC, issue-tracking systems, and advanced Linux/Windows administration.
SKILLS:
• Ability to deliver high-quality technical work efficiently and to agreed standards and timelines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate and resolve complex technical and computational issues.
• Ability to adapt to rapidly evolving technologies, including developments in scientific computing and data-intensive workflows
• Drive to explore and evaluate new algorithms, frameworks and methods, and assess their applicability to scientific modelling and data-processing challenges
• Ability to work in parallel on multiple tasks
• Very good communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences and to participate constructively in technical meetings.
• Ability to produce clear, structured and accurate technical documentation.
• Ability to work in a team as well as autonomously
Language knowledge: English B2+
Office: Ispra, Italy. Near-site service provision with full time on-site presence, with occasional remote service provision (home-working) upon mutual agreement between customer and contractor. IT equipment and offece space will be provided by the Commission.
Minimum level of qualification: Master’s degree and 15 years of experience or secondary education and 22 years of experience.
Rate: 680€/day
