Join the Risk Screening & Steering Tooling team (Dime) in Zalando Payments Risk Management department and step into a high-leverage role where your engineering skills directly influence the commercial success of the Zalando Group.
Our team is dedicated to building a sophisticated ecosystem of fraud detection and prevention tooling that optimizes workflows for manual screeners, and profilers, while feeding high-quality data to our machine learning models.
In this role, you will take ownership of building and operating critical infrastructure that span from annotating orders for signs of fraudulent behavior to managing late order cancellations.
By successfully reducing financial losses and supporting broader risk assessment strategies, you will see a direct link between your daily work and the financial health of the entire company.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)
Build and maintain scalable event-driven backend systems using Java and Nakadi/Kafka to detect and prevent fraud, ensuring high performance and reliability of services for our customers.
Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Principal Engineers to translate business requirements into technical solutions, actively contributing to architectural discussions and decomposing complex epics into manageable tasks.
Take ownership of the full software lifecycle, utilizing AI and automation to streamline workflows and improve code health, while identifying opportunities to integrate with broader internal systems and front-ends.
Deliver secure, compliant solutions that strictly adhere to GDPR or DORA regulations, ensuring that our fraud prevention tools protect both the customer and the company's bottom line.
Act as a proactive team player by spearheading documentation and knowledge sharing, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and providing best of class usability and extensibility.
WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF
You have 3+ years experience building and operating high-quality, scalable backend services using the Java (Spring Boot) ecosystem, AWS, and Kubernetes in a cloud-native environment. Proficiency in data storage (Elasticache, DynamoDB, PostgreSQL) and full-text search (Solr) is desired.
You are knowledgeable in designing event-driven microservices and RESTful APIs, and writing well-structured, observable, and maintainable code covered by automated tests that are rolled out to production in small and safe iterations.
You communicate clearly with product managers and engineering peers to clarify requirements, proactively resolving ambiguity and solving complex technical challenges.
You support your team’s growth by providing constructive feedback in code reviews and actively sharing knowledge to foster technical excellence.
You demonstrate a customer-centric approach and pragmatism, taking ownership of your solutions to ensure they deliver tangible business value.
You possess a proactive, self-driven mindset, exhibiting passion for continuous learning and identifying opportunities to improve existing workflows.
