Backend Intern (AWS redshift, AWS glue)

Job Brief
We are looking for Backend Interns who can build and maintain automated ETL pipelines using AWS Glue while managing and optimizing data warehousing environments in AWS Redshift and MySQL. Your role focuses on ensuring data integrity through proactive monitoring and troubleshooting, as well as refining complex SQL queries to enhance system performance and cost-efficiency. Collaborating closely with BI and Analytics teams, you will perform data modeling to deliver high-quality, structured datasets that meet evolving business requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Pipeline Development: Assist in building and maintaining automated ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes using AWS Glue.
• Data Warehousing: Help manage and optimize tables, schemas, and queries within AWS Redshift.
• Database Management: Perform data modeling and maintenance tasks in MySQL and other relational databases.
• Data Quality: Monitor data integrity and troubleshoot pipeline failures to ensure high-quality data is available for stakeholders.
• Optimization: Write and refine complex SQL queries to improve performance and reduce processing costs.
• Collaboration: Work with Data Analysts and Business Intelligence teams to understand data requirements and deliver structured datasets.

Required Experience & Qualification:

• Education: Currently in the final year of a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or recently graduated).
• SQL Mastery: Strong proficiency in writing and optimizing complex SQL queries (joins, window functions, indexing).
• Relational Databases: Practical experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar RDBMS.
• Cloud Awareness: A foundational understanding of cloud computing concepts.

Preferred (Nice to Have):

• AWS Tools: Exposure to AWS Redshift (Data Warehousing) and AWS Glue (ETL).
• Programming: Basic proficiency in Python for data manipulation (Pandas, PySpark).
• Data Modeling: Familiarity with star/snowflake schemas and normalization.
• Big Data: Knowledge of S3 data lakes or distributed computing concepts.
