About the Team & the Role
We are building a new Marketplace platform within SolarWinds’ cloud-native Observability and AIOps ecosystem. The platform will initially support internal product SKUs and will evolve to enable third-party integrations, payments, and extensibility at scale.
As a Backend Engineer, you will be a hands-on contributor working on the core services that power marketplace transactions, integrations, and reliability. You’ll collaborate closely with senior engineers, product managers, and platform teams to design and build scalable, secure, and observable backend systems.
This role is well suited for engineers who enjoy solving real backend problems, working on distributed systems, and growing their impact in a product-focused environment.
What You’ll Do
Backend Development & System Design
Design and build backend services supporting marketplace functionality such as transactions, usage metering, billing, and integrations.
Contribute to microservice and event-driven architectures that scale reliably.
Participate in technical design discussions and architecture reviews.
Hands-on Engineering
Write, test, and maintain high-quality backend code using Kotlin and/or Go (Java experience also relevant).
Improve performance, reliability, and maintainability of existing services.
Build systems with strong observability using metrics, logs, and tracing.
Payments & Marketplace Enablement
Implement and maintain integrations with payment providers (e.g., Stripe or similar).
Build secure APIs for transaction lifecycle management.
Follow best practices around security, data protection, and compliance (e.g., PCI-related considerations).
Scalability & Reliability
Help design and operate services that handle increasing traffic and usage.
Apply resilience patterns such as retries, timeouts, and graceful degradation.
Work with Kubernetes, Docker, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) in production environments.
Collaboration & Ownership
Work closely with product managers, frontend engineers, and platform teams.
Participate in code reviews and contribute to shared engineering standards.
Take ownership of services from development through production support.
What You Bring
Core Requirements
3–5 years of professional experience building backend services or distributed systems.
Strong programming experience in Kotlin or Go (Java acceptable).
Experience designing and building REST or event-driven APIs.
Solid understanding of scalability, performance, and reliability concepts.
Hands-on experience with AWS and/or Azure.
Platform & Engineering Practices
Experience with microservices and asynchronous or event-driven workflows.
Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps practices.
Experience working with production systems and participating in on-call rotations.
Collaboration & Mindset
Comfortable working in cross-functional teams.
Good communication skills and a strong sense of ownership.
Desire to learn, grow, and improve systems over time.
Nice to Have
Experience with payments, usage metering, billing, or transaction-heavy systems.
Exposure to marketplaces, partner platforms, or SaaS products.
Familiarity with observability platforms or platform engineering concepts.
Knowledge of security fundamentals, IAM, or secrets management.
