Backend Engineer-Global Catalog (hybrid)

ABOUT THE ROLE

Zalando’s Global Catalog team builds the core Product, Media, Brand and Category systems for Europe's largest Fashion e-commerce retailer. As a Kotlin Engineer in Global Catalog, you will be delivering a direct impact to more than 51 million Zalando customers in 25 countries and growing. You will take the Global Catalog systems to the next level, by building scalable and compliant onboarding and serving capabilities

Teams at our Dublin Tech Hub work on many of the cornerstones of our Fashion Store, including personalization components. Through full stack engineering and research, we turn visionary ideas into new emerging businesses with real potential. By tackling the most challenging problems for the fashion industry, we drive the personal digital experience and underlying knowledge models to create the most inspirational fashion experience for our customers.

WHAT WE'D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

• Actively participate in each stage of the development cycle - from solution design to implementation, testing and operating your code in an agile environment.

• Design, build and maintain large-scale backend microservices using technologies such as Kotlin, Scala, Java, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kubernetes.

• Ensure a state-of-the-art software development methodology.

• Share your knowledge with your colleagues and engage in regular pairing sessions.

• Interact with various teams and stakeholders with different backgrounds and with a large spectrum of competencies.

• Have an operational excellence mindset, taking part in service operational duties, including monitoring and keeping systems up and running healthy.

WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF...

• You have working experience with JVM-based languages like Kotlin and/or Java and/or Scala. 

• You have experience with Spring Boot.

• You have experience working on large-scale, resilient, distributed microservices on a cloud infrastructure (preferably Kubernetes and AWS)

• You have worked on REST APIs design and implementation.

• You have worked with different Database systems (SQL or no-SQL)

• You are passionate about and keep up to date with changes to the latest technologies.

• You have a strong desire to learn and grow. 

• You have excellent communication skills.

BONUS / NICE TO HAVES…

• You understand/have worked with event-driven architectures.

• You have experience in the full application lifecycle from conception to deployment and operation. 

• You have experience with Kafka and GraphQL.

• You have experience in data engineering, including building ETL pipelines, working with Databricks, and developing data-driven insights.
