As part of our team, you will be helping us create an entirely new network for the world's money.
For everyone, everywhere.
More about our mission and what we offer.
Job DescriptionLondon-based role (UK). Please note: we’re unable to offer visa sponsorship or relocation support for this position.
About the role:
We're building a new Account Insights team on a simple belief: when customers can see their money clearly, they manage it smarter - and move more of their financial life to Wise. You'll help turn millions of transactions into fast, trustworthy, genuinely useful insights that customers act on.
About the team:
Account Insights is an early-stage, growing team spanning backend, mobile, and web, with product and design partners. You'll join with senior engineers alongside you and real ownership over what we build — a great fit if you want influence and room to grow.
How we work:
We believe that an engineer is more than just a coder. Our engineers are focused on improving our customers’ experience - and they see the impact of their work on millions of people every day.
Wise is all about collaboration. You will be surrounded by passionate people and work together with them to progress our mission.
What will you be working on?
- Building the backend behind customer-facing insights features — spending summaries, travel insights, and spend controls like budgets and recurring-payment tracking.
- Working across a high-throughput streaming and storage stack (Java/Spring Boot, Kafka, stream processing) to aggregate activity data accurately and serve it through low-latency, well-documented APIs.
- Improving categorisation accuracy so the numbers customers see are ones they trust.
- Owning components and flows end-to-end — through development, deployment, and running them in production, including the on-call rotation.
- Writing high-quality tests, clear documentation, and reviewing code to raise the bar across the team.
A bit about you
- You deliver medium-sized backend projects independently and see them through the full lifecycle, drawing on the team for the toughest problems.
- Solid backend fundamentals and proficiency in your primary language (we work mainly in Java/Spring Boot), plus a good grasp of distributed-systems concepts like asynchronous communication and event streaming.
- You write well-tested, high-quality code and actively improve what's around you.
- You give and receive feedback openly and help build a collaborative, inclusive team.
- Nice to have (not essential): experience with Kafka, stream processing, or high-throughput low-latency services.
