Backend Developer

Akselos delivers Structural Performance Management (SPM) software that enables industrial operators to make safety-critical, high-value decisions about the integrity and lifetime of their assets. Position Summary: 

As a Backend Developer, you design, build, and maintain the backend systems that power the Akselos SPM platform. You are responsible for developing robust, scalable services and APIs, enabling secure data handling, and supporting complex simulation workflows. Working closely with frontend developers, simulation engineers, architects and product teams, you ensure that our cloud-based high-performance computing (HPC) remains reliable, maintainable, and fit for safety-critical, industrial-scale use.

Responsibilities:

• Improve the server backend in terms of features and performance
  • Develop the server backend, adding new features to meet business requirements.
  • Profile backend services and make necessary performance improvements.
  • Understand relevant security issues for the service.
  • Proactively audit code for logic errors and vulnerabilities.
  • Participate in code reviews.
  • Create automated tests as needed
• Configure and maintain deployments
  • Make architectural changes as necessary to allow smooth scaling of cloud resources according to demand.
  • Implement new logging, diagnostic, monitoring, and notification tools to help ensure reliable operation of the cloud and on premise services.
  • Help to deploy and maintain the service on the on premise and cloud platforms
  • Help maintain and improve our CI/CD systems
  • Monitor, investigate, and resolve system and network incidents.
• Make incremental improvements to the browser-based frontend
  • Add UI widgets as necessary to allow users to access new backend features
• Collaboration 
  • Collaborate closely with frontend developers, simulation engineers, product managers, and software testers across regions to align on requirements, interfaces, and quality expectations.

Must-to-have skills:

Education 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.

Experience 

• At least 3 years of professional backend software development experience, related to designing and maintaining cloud-based distributed systems.

Technical and Soft skills

• Fluent English skills (verbal and written).
  
• Fluency in Python and SQL
• Experience in designing and maintaining distributed systems using a major cloud provider e.g. Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure
• Linux systems administration experience
• Familiarity with common tools and workflows used for building, testing, and deployment
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code frameworks such as Ansible and Terraform
• Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, especially when working with complex technical workflows.
• High aptitude for learning new technologies, developing technical solutions.
• Effective team collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with developers, engineers, testers, and domain experts across multiple continents and time zones.
• Ability to communicate ideas effectively to other team members

Nice-to-have skills:

• Experience with InfluxDB or other tools relevant to time-series databases
• Experience with Slurm or other HPC tools
• Experience with Frontend/Fullstack knowledge (Javascript, Typescript, React)
• Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g. code generation, refactoring, or testing support) to improve developer productivity and code quality.
