The Azure Platform Senior Engineer is a trusted technical leader within their team who owns one or more systems and serves as a go-to resource for technical decision-making. They design and deliver complex solutions, mentor junior and mid-level engineers, and shape the technical direction of their area. Senior Engineers operate with limited oversight, proactively identify improvements, and balance short-term delivery with long-term health systems.
Responsibilities
- Designs, architects, and delivers complex features and system-level solutions with limited oversight
- Owns the technical health, reliability, and evolution of one or more systems or major components
- Leads technical design discussions, produces design documents, and participates in defining scope and technical direction for projects within their domain
- Mentors Engineer I and II team members through code reviews, pairing, and direct coaching — including onshore and offshore engineers
- Collaborates with product, QA, and business stakeholders to shape requirements and influence technical decisions
- Drives continuous improvement in code quality, testing practices, CI/CD pipelines, and engineering standards
- Identifies technical debt and systemic risks; proposes and leads remediation efforts
- Serves as an escalation point for complex production issues and leads root-cause analysis
- Leverages AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery and improve code quality; helps establish team practices for effective AI-assisted workflows
- Participates in a shared on-call rotation to support production reliability and patient safety; Participates in on-call rotation across the team and volume is generally low
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; Or, equivalent practical experience. Master's degree a plus
- Minimum of four (4) years of professional engineering experience with demonstrated progression in responsibility
- Advanced proficiency in at least one modern technology stack or platform relevant to assigned domain
- Understanding of system design, architecture patterns, and scalability considerations
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and elevate the technical skills of other engineers
- Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity and make sound trade-off decisions
- Evidence of written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools and workflows to improve engineering velocity and quality
- Experience working in agile environments and leading delivery across cross-functional teams
- Proficiency with Microsoft Azure IaaS and PaaS services (VMs, VNets, AKS, App Services, Storage, Key Vault) and Microsoft 365 E5 administration (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Defender suite)
- Advanced knowledge of Entra ID -- SSO/SAML, Conditional Access, RBAC, and Privileged Identity Management for a distributed workforce
- Proficiency with Azure Networking -- Fortinet firewall experience is a plus, Azure Firewall, Vnet peering, NSGs, private endpoints, service endpoints, Azure Front-Door, Application Gateway and load-balancers, Azure DNS, VPN connectivity, Cisco Meraki administration (routing, switching, wireless)
- Proficiency in scripting and automation (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) and Infrastructure-as-Code tooling (Terraform, ARM templates, or Azure Bicep)
- Experience with DevOps – CI/CD pipelines, version control, design and manage build, test, and deployment workflows using tools like Azure DevOps GitHub Action, Jenkins
- Experience with monitoring, alerting, and observability tooling (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Microsoft Defender) and supporting compliance audits with infrastructure evidence and documentation
- Experience with backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures for Azure workloads, including periodic DR testing and validation
- Experience with containerization and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes/AKS) including deployment, scaling, and cluster management
