The Role
Design and implement secure, scalable AWS architectures while leading DevOps strategy, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, Kubernetes, and Amazon EKS operations. Build resilient cloud environments, automate deployments, establish observability and incident response, optimize performance and cost, troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues, and provide technical leadership across engineering, security, architecture, and operations teams.
Summary Generated by Built In

This is a remote position.

We are looking for a highly experienced AWS DevOps Architect to design and implement scalable, secure, and resilient cloud solutions in a complex enterprise environment.

The ideal candidate combines strong AWS architecture expertise with deep, hands-on knowledge of Kubernetes, particularly Amazon EKS. This is not a purely strategic architecture position—the successful candidate must be comfortable designing solutions, making and defending technical decisions, and contributing directly to implementation and automation.

Location and Engagement
  • Location: Prague, Czech Republic
  • Working model: Hybrid
  • Contract: Long-term B2B/freelance cooperation
  • Start date: As soon as possible
Key Responsibilities
  • Design end-to-end AWS cloud architectures aligned with business, technical, security, and enterprise requirements.
  • Lead the DevOps strategy across infrastructure provisioning, application deployment, operations, and release management.
  • Design and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
  • Architect, deploy, and support containerized workloads running on Amazon EKS.
  • Define Kubernetes request flows, service interactions, workload placement, networking, and scaling strategies.
  • Select and implement appropriate Kubernetes autoscaling mechanisms based on workload characteristics, including CPU-bound, memory-bound, and event-driven workloads.
  • Build and improve CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or AWS CodePipeline.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning, application deployments, configuration management, and operational processes.
  • Design highly available, fault-tolerant, and disaster-resilient AWS environments.
  • Implement secure connectivity between applications, databases, and managed AWS services.
  • Introduce passwordless and IAM-based authentication patterns where appropriate.
  • Establish monitoring, logging, alerting, observability, and incident-response practices.
  • Apply AWS security best practices across identity management, networking, encryption, logging, and access control.
  • Evaluate alternative architecture approaches and clearly justify the selected technical solutions.
  • Optimize cloud environments for performance, reliability, security, operational efficiency, and cost.
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure, Kubernetes, networking, deployment, and production issues.
  • Collaborate with development, security, architecture, and operations teams.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and best-practice guidance to engineering teams.

Requirements
  • At least 8 years of experience in DevOps, cloud engineering, infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, or cloud architecture.
  • Strong hands-on experience designing and implementing solutions on AWS.
  • Deep practical knowledge of Kubernetes and production experience with Amazon EKS.
  • Strong understanding of Kubernetes architecture and internal components.
  • Practical knowledge of:
    • Pods and the pod lifecycle
    • Deployments and StatefulSets
    • Services and Ingress
    • ConfigMaps and Secrets
    • Kubernetes networking and request flow
    • Resource requests and limits
    • Scheduling and workload placement
    • Health checks, readiness probes, and liveness probes
    • High availability and resilience
  • Strong knowledge of Kubernetes scaling mechanisms:
    • Horizontal Pod Autoscaler
    • Vertical Pod Autoscaler
    • Cluster Autoscaler
    • Selection of an appropriate strategy for CPU-bound, memory-bound, and event-driven workloads
  • Extensive experience with AWS services, including:
    • Amazon EC2
