Job Description – Windows System Engineer
IT Job Description:
This role is for a Windows system engineer. Candidates must be extremely knowledgeable in Microsoft Windows operating systems and will have experience with virtualization technologies including VMWare, Hyper-V and XenServer.
They will have experience with Cloud technologies, particularly Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services. They will possess a thorough understanding of the operational challenges surrounding various business computer technologies within the finance industry.
The candidate will collaborate closely with other engineering and operations teams within the organization. They will be familiar with operational disciplines such as project management, problem management and change management as well as networking, systems monitoring and multi-platform integration.
This is a hands-on position requiring a person with a great deal of systems support experience, together with a thorough understanding of various technological principles.
The key job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Engineering and system administration of Microsoft Windows Server environments.
Standard Operating Environment design, documentation and maintenance.
Designing Windows operating system builds on physical hosts, on virtual platforms and in Microsoft Azure/AWS.
VMWare & Hyper-V hypervisor operating system builds.
Microsoft Windows security vulnerability and patch process design.
Windows product tool, agent and firmware integration.
System configuration compliance management.
Job Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a formal higher education degree, preferably in the field of IT. The candidate must have at least 5 years of hands-on systems engineering experience within the finance and banking industry or equivalent.
Required Skills:·
Strong Windows 2016, 2019 and 2022 operating system knowledge.
Experience with Windows operating systems on physical machines, on hypervisors and in Cloud.
Design and configure system security benchmarks and reporting methodologies.
Storage platform integration, hardware driver and firmware integration.
Operating system tuning of resources and parameters (e.g. network configuration, shared memory, services).
Script development and maintenance – Command Line, PowerShell and/or Python scripting proficiency.
Performance troubleshooting of memory and CPU utilization, I/O components and other peripherals.
Understanding of the Microsoft ecosystems including Active Directory and SQL Server.
Knowledge of enterprise tools and products (e.g. Varonis and Defender).
System replication and recovery within the Cloud environment.
Desired Skills:
Experience with Cloud technologies, particularly Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services.
Familiarity with automation and configuration management tools and principles (e.g. Ansible, Amelia/IPSoft ).
Knowledge of SAN attached storage technologies (e.g. EMC VNX/VMAX, Hitachi, Netapp, Pure).

Familiar with latest database technologies e.g. Oracle, Sybase, MS SQL.

Familiarity with various hardware configurations including HP servers and Dell blade technology.
