About This Job

Axos Bank is seeking an Assistant Vice President of Software Development with an emphasis of Outsystems. This is a hands-on development manager with an architect's mindset, someone who leads teams while remaining deeply engaged in technical design and code review. As AVP, Software Development Manager - OutSystems, you will be responsible for designing and implementing applications to digitize and automate business processes and to enhance our digital banking platform. The role combines direct people leadership with active technical contribution, ensuring high-quality delivery across the enterprise using the OutSystems low-code platform (both O11 and ODC).

Responsibilities:

  • Hands-On Technical Leadership
    • Actively contribute to the design, architecture, and code review of OutSystems applications; this is a player-coach role, not a purely administrative management position.
    • Refactor and optimize the OutSystems codebase to realize just-in-time design principles and platform best practices (4-Layer Canvas / ODC architecture patterns).
    • Define and govern solution architecture, integration patterns, and non-functional requirements (performance, security, scalability) across the enterprise OutSystems portfolio.
    • Evaluate OutSystems Forge components, custom extensions, and vendor API integrations appropriate for financial services use cases.
  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Lead, mentor, and performance-manage a team of OutSystems developers (O11 and ODC) across multiple concurrent delivery streams.
    • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations aligned to OutSystems competency frameworks and professional certification pathways.
    • Recruit and onboard OutSystems talent; assess OutSystems Associate, Professional Developer, and Architecture Specialist certifications during hiring.
    • Foster a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous learning within the development team.
  • Delivery & Product Roadmap Execution
    • Work with Product Team(s) to define functional and non-functional requirements across the enterprise portfolio.
    • Identify and implement opportunities to continuously improve the Outsystems development capabilities and platform maturity.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Work closely and communicate proactively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, from business operations and product teams to technology leadership.
    • Translate business requirements from banking, risk, compliance, and product teams into OutSystems development workstreams and actionable delivery plans.
    • Serve as primary escalation point for delivery risks, and resourcing constraints.
    • Enforce secure development practices across ODC and O11 environments.

Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
    • 5+ years of full-stack .NET or Java development experience; designing interactive web applications, developing REST/SOAP web services, and integrating with vendor APIs.
    • 6+ years on the OutSystems platform (O11 required), with strong proficiency in Service Studio, Integration Studio, LifeTime, and OutSystems architecture patterns.
    • 3+ years managing or leading software development teams in a financial services or similarly regulated environment.
    • 1+ years of experience working on ODC (OutSystems Developer Cloud).
    • Experience working on integrating OutSystems with external systems.
    • Proven ability to design and implement responsive applications using OutSystems UI frameworks.
    • Strong proficiency in relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle, or equivalent) and integration with OutSystems data models.
    • Exceptional work ethic, comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and the ability to independently manage a workload with multiple priorities
    • Solid understanding of Agile/Scrum methodology and associated tooling (Jira, Azure DevOps, Confluence).

Preferred:

    • OutSystems Professional Developer, Architecture Specialist, or Lead Developer certification.
    • Experience developing applications on ODC (OutSystems Developer Cloud), OutSystems11,
    • 2+ years working with BPM tools to optimize organizational processes aligned to business objectives.
    • Experience managing geographically dispersed or near-shore development teams in a financial services context.
    • Proficiency in complementary front-end technologies: JavaScript, Angular 10+ or React, TypeScript.
    • Exposure to SDLC governance frameworks such as ITIL, COBIT, or equivalent banking-grade change management processes.
    • Familiarity with AI Mentor Studio, Agent Builder / Agent Workbench, and ODC/Service Studio AI-assisted features
    • "AI-Forward Mindset" competency covering OutSystems AI tooling + non-OutSystems tools
