Job Description:
The AVP Research Operations oversees research operations across the enterprise. They ensure strategic planning, growth, daily management of operations teams, enterprise integration/harmonization, interface with hospital operations leaders, compliance, and caregiver engagement. Reporting to the VP of Research, this executive position leads strategy and operations for research areas, while coordinating with senior medical leadership teams. The AVP ensures adherence to policies and procedures for research operations staff and may manage multiple complex projects and programs.
Essential Functions
- The AVP oversees all aspects of Research operations for the Enterprise.
- Reports to the VP of Research and works in a dyad relationship with the Senior Medical Director for Research.
- Accountable for strategic planning, program growth and development, daily operations, information systems, regulatory compliance of research staff, finance and budgeting, purchasing, marketing, quality, billing and collections, and caregiver engagement. Strategic planning includes anticipating resource needs to achieve research growth required to meet program needs.
- Represents Intermountain Health’s Research programs to internal and external key stakeholders through extensive collaboration with Marketing and Communication and strategic activities, including communications with hospital operational leadership as well as executive directors in Service Line and Clinical Programs.
- Develops, tracks, and manages the financial annual plans and facilitates monthly operating reviews and quarterly business reviews with each department.
- Oversees all Enterprise integration/harmonization across research programs
- In collaboration with the Senior Medical Director for Research, oversees the Scientific Review Board process.
- In collaboration with VP Research, oversees the ARP Committee operational activities, strategic design, information systems, and policies and procedures.
- Oversees the interface with other Enterprise functions responsible for physician contracting in order to assure timely and effective academic clinician contracting.
- Works with VP Research to manage the academic physician compensation process and accountability.
- Serves on the Research Leadership Team and Executive Committee for Research.
- Works collaboratively with the Senior Medical Director for Research to create system-wide standards, processes, resources, and metrics for Research operations.
- Manages the interface with the Continuous Improvement team to assure effective documentation of successful attainment of Key Performance Indicators for Research.
- Ensures that documentation, quality, and regulatory requirements for research staff are met and proactively identifies and implements best practices.
- Responsible for communication, participant experience, human resource programs, staffing, coaching, mentoring, and employment decisions within Research operations.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (education will be verified).
- Demonstrated experience in leading operations in a highly matrixed academic environment.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating and training in a healthcare/academic/industry research setting.
- Demonstrated management and leadership experience.
- Demonstrated experience in oversight of study design, development and analysis of research data is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working with grants accounting and research finance.
- Masters Degree is preferred in a clinical or life science field, business or healthcare operations.
- Eight years of experience coordinating and training in a healthcare/academic/industry research setting is preferred.
- Three years management and leadership experience is preferred.
- Five years of experience working with grants accounting and research finance is preferred.
- Experience in strategic planning, leadership, problem-solving, budget creation, and statistical analysis is preferred.
- Experience with compliance programs relating to professional standards, governmental agencies, and accreditation organizations is preferred.

- Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.
- May have the same physical requirements as those of clinical or patient care jobs, when the leader takes clinical shifts.
- For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
This is an exempt, full-time position with a compensation range of $230,000 - $258,000, annually, and as determined by prior years of relevant experience. With this position, you are eligible to participate in the Annual Pay for Performance (AP4P) Plan. This plan enables Intermountain Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity. The AP4P award opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary. Awards are paid out based on attainment of selected Board-approved goals.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
