CNA Specialty Claims is recruiting for an Assistant Vice President in our Professional Services Claims organization to lead the Lawyers Professional Liability claims team. The individual in this role will have responsibility for the management of a diverse team of approximately 38 Claims Professionals and Claims Leaders across the U.S.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in Lawyers Professional E&O claims. This position is responsible for contributing to the strategic direction of the Professional Services Claims team in accordance with the company's broader strategic priorities and providing operational leadership for all aspects of the Lawyers Professional lines of business with a particular focus on technical excellence, claim efficiency and customer satisfaction. The candidate must have a demonstrated track record of driving continuous improvement efforts through a claims team and effectively managing and developing senior level individual contributors handling high severity claims.
The individual also must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills and be able to develop and maintain collaborative internal and external business partnerships. The individual will be expected to model CNA's Winning Behaviors and foster talent development and a culture of diversity, equity & inclusion.
This position could be filled in Chicago, New York City, or would consider other CNA Claims Offices.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
Implements strategic objectives with substantial impact on short-term success for claim management practices.
Leads, directs and has full management accountability for staff in area of responsibility with an emphasis on talent management and succession planning in accordance with corporate strategic direction.
Collaborates with senior leadership as well as with other members of the Professional Services Leadership Team in the development and implementation of claim policies, business strategies and goals, regularly evaluating performance against goals; and holding self and team accountable for achieving desired results.
Collaborates with internal business partners to ensure optimal implementation of business strategies; regularly communicating with senior management and internal business partners regarding progress and status updates on applicable claim files, claim trends and legal changes that may impact total claim outcome and other relevant business results; takes appropriate levels of risks based upon informed analysis.
Strives for a superior customer experience and continuous improvement through the development and implementation of corporate initiatives involving human capital, processes and technology. Identifies emerging issues and trends that may have substantial impact on CNA claim management practices and processes.
Manages expenses and adequately controls resources to ensure successful operations within established budget, productivity and efficiency standards. Leverages systems capabilities, data and metrics/reports to analyze trends and improve organizational and process performance.
Champions CNA with an advanced understanding of the company's differentiating position in the industry, CNA's products and services, as well as a working knowledge and understanding of competitors products and services.
Remains current of state/territory regulations and issues, industry activities and trends. May represent company in industry trade groups.
Maintains and promotes a culture of inclusion, and a work environment that inspires professional development and advancement of the Claim Professionals.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
1. In-depth technical knowledge of theories and practices within claims management and insurance industry operations and working knowledge of finance and accounting functions.
2. Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of external and/or internal business partners within scope of responsibility, team and/or matrix environment.
3. Leadership and management skills demonstrating integrity and professionalism.
4. Ability to drive results by identifying and resolving problems within scope of responsibility.
5. Knowledge of the insurance industry, its products and services.
6. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
Education & Experience
1. Bachelor's degree and JD required.
2. Typically a minimum of 15 years claims experience, with multiple years of strong management experience.
3. Applicable certifications preferred.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In California, Colorado, Connecticut, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $143,000 to $228,000 annually.Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
