Job Summary

The AVP, Chief Nursing Informatics Officer is responsible for the execution of the informatics vision, and day-to-day management of the informatics workforce that support the nursing and non-physician priorities of the health system.Job Description
Minimum Qualifications

Education:  MSN or Master’s in Informatics as well as DNP or PhD in Nursing/Informatics preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:  Current and active RN license. ANCC – Nursing Informatics required; CPHIMS optional.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Five (5) or more years of related leadership experience.

  • Five (5) or more years of clinical experience.

  • Five (5) or more years of the application of clinical informatics, project management, quality improvement methods and tools for progressive Clinical Information Systems (CIS) including clinical data repositories, electronic medical records, clinical documentation, computerized order entry, results reporting, and access systems.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Collaborates with CHIO, CIO, CDO, CNE and other informatics leadership to develop and communicate the organizational and service-line strategic plans with a focus on nursing and other clinical needs.

  • Responsible for documentation standardization that are consistent with best practice and support outcome metrics for nursing sensitive indicators.

  • Partners with CNOS, information services, Digital and health IT vendors with responsibility for enhancing the nursing/clinical experience with health IT.

  • Maintains operational responsibility for the selection, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of health IT that impacts nursing care delivery to align with organizational objectives in all care venues.

  • Promotes the use of health IT to improve patient safety by designing, developing, implementing, and educating on decision support tools.

  • Creates a communications strategy and cross-organizational vision for nursing/clinical informatics in concert with the overall nursing communication strategy.

  • Coordinates and collaborates with administrative teams, clinical leaders, information technology, financial services, and quality/regulatory/risk management amongst others in the development of high quality and innovative clinical information systems that assist the clinician in their delivery of care through change management process.

  • Partners with the Quality department to ensure nursing practices and corresponding policies and procedures related to health IT follow appropriate Practice Acts, Joint Commission requirements, and other applicable regulations and standards.

  • Develops and maintains relationships with key business partners and other senior industry leaders to leverage best practices, evaluate emerging technologies, and distribute knowledge internally to inform plans and strategies.

  • Collaborates with nurse leaders in planning and implementing program expansion and growth, including new business ventures, construction, and projects.

  • Drives quality improvement efforts are consistent with promoting informatics research, regulatory bodies, and guidelines as well as evidence-based practice that supports positive clinical outcomes by designing solutions that highly reliable across the system.

  • Continuously collects, analyzes, identifies trends, and reports data in collaboration with quality and CNOs on patient safety issues and outcomes.

  • Ensures coordination and integration of standard of care practices across all clinical departments for quality patient care.

  • Provides critical analysis and evaluation of health IT and recommends revision of clinical systems, processes, and workflow to ensure achievement of positive patient outcomes.

  • Collaborates with administration, clinical staff, and IT leaders to translate clinician requirements into coordinated specifications for new clinical solutions.

  • Nurse advocate that establishes prioritization on informatics efforts and facilitates change management in a creative and positive manner.

  • Nursing profession thought leader who presents and publishes in academic and professional settings. 

  • Direct oversight and resource management of the informatics workforce

  • Provides input for development of informatics division budgets.

  • Supports the organizational mission statement, values, and goals
