The Role

Job Description:

This AVP Accounting role is responsible for the direction and oversight of the following system-wide accounting operations or functions for Intermountain Health: Enterprise Shared Services accounting, Foundations accounting, Grant accounting, the Payroll function, and the Accounts Payable function. The leader is responsible for developing, enhancing and implementing systems of internal control in accounting and other financial systems, as appropriate, to achieve business objectives, including safeguarding Intermountain Health resources and providing timely and accurate financial reporting to various constituencies. The leader focuses on developing a high-performing group of Directors and Managers and works with Finance and other cross-functional leaders to achieve the objectives of Intermountain Health’s accounting function.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees accounting processes and systems to achieve business objectives, including safeguarding Intermountain Health resources.
  • Prepare, review and present periodic (e.g., monthly, quarterly, or annual) financial statements and reports for external stakeholders including the Board and executive leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), IRS, and other applicable accounting and tax rules and regulations.
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audits and implement audit recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure the integrity and reliability of financial data and payment processes.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate accounting staff, and foster a culture of teamwork and excellence.
  • Research and monitor emerging accounting issues and trends and provide technical accounting advice and guidance.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure alignment and integration of accounting processes and information.
  • Design, improve, support, and monitor accounting processes, working with stakeholders, Finance, and IT to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in accounting or business required.  Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution.  Education is verified. 
  • Current CPA license is required.  License is verified.
  • Demonstrated senior-level progressive accounting experience in complex organization is required, healthcare experience preferred. 
  • Demonstrated experience in a CPA firm preparing audited financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing high performing teams and projects.
  •  Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in generating a high volume of reports and presentations that are accurate and professional.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
  • Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.
  • May have the same physical requirements as those of clinical or patient care jobs, when the leader takes clinical shifts.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

This is an exempt, full-time position with a compensation range of $202,000 - $238,000 annually, and as determined by prior years of relevant experience. With this position, you are eligible to participate in the Annual Pay for Performance (AP4P) Plan. This plan enables Intermountain Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity. The AP4P award opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary. Awards are paid out based on attainment of selected Board-approved goals.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$87.84 - $135.58
