Job Duties and Responsibilities
EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for an Aviation Quality Engineer in our Hughes Network Systems division. Hughes is a leading provider of satellite products and services that recently announced disruptive in-flight entertainment and connectivity solutions for airlines. This position is responsible for leading quality assurance activities across the IFC product lifecycle, ensuring compliance with aviation industry standards and regulations. The role works closely with Certification Engineering, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing, Regulatory Compliance, Supply Chain, and Customer Support teams to deliver high-quality, reliable IFC systems that meet or exceed customer and regulatory expectations. This position can be located in either our Germantown, MD or Lisle, IL office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay up to date with aviation regulations and certification requirements
- Technical Leadership: As the team grows, lead and mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and expertise in engineering principles and aviation-specific knowledge in the aviation regulatory environment.
- Ensure compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, and relevant FAA/EASA quality standards.
- Oversee AS9102 First Article Inspections (FAI) and part conformities.
- Perform Quality review of aviation documents and drawings.
- Assist with internal and supplier audits to ensure regulatory and company standards are met.
- Lead root cause and corrective action (RCCA) investigations to resolve aviation product non-conformances in production and on in-service aircraft.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Certification, Customer Support, and Program Management teams.
- Support design reviews, FMEAs, and other quality activities during product development.
- Calibrate with other internal quality entities to ensure incoming materials and components meet quality requirements for aviation.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using data-driven quality tools and methodologies for aviation related product.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills, Experience and Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, or a related technical field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in engineering, with at least 5 years in aerospace or aviation.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, and regulatory requirements such as FAA Part 21/25/145 and EASA.
- Familiar with root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, and quality data analysis.
- Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or equivalent certification.
- Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification.
- Experience with QMS software, SAP, and quality analytics tools.
- Familiarity with IFEC systems, avionics, or connected aircraft technologies is a plus.
Will be eligible for discretionary bonus, with funding based on company performance.

Salary Ranges
Compensation: $97,500.00/Year - $130,000.00/Year

The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location.
