Primary Purpose:

Our Autonomous Driving Vehicle Operators Serve as the “eyes and ears” on the road for the engineering teams, providing subjective feedback and objective data as they navigate various real-world driving environments to validate the Autonomous Driving features. The successful Vehicle Operator has a curious mindset and constantly questions "why" things happen. They will also have good attention to detail and be able to quickly and concisely describe their thoughts and move on to the next observation.

Essential Duties:

  • Safely operate prototype-level Autonomous Vehicles on both defined and undefined routes, including a variety of geographic and environmental conditions
  • Operate in-vehicle data recording computers, including start/stop recording, data marking, and minor debugging when issues arise
  • Provide clear, accurate, and useful subjective feedback to the engineering teams on vehicle behavior observed
  • Ensure the safe operation of our test vehicles on public roads
  • Be able to provide quality service for passengers when applicable
  • Requires some initial travel for training and collaboration with other vehicle operators
  • Able to read and understand highway and street signs and all traffic signals
  • Able to speak sufficient English in order to converse with first responders if necessary
  • Maintains current knowledge and adherence to all Motional AD LLC operating policies, procedures, and directives
  • Arrives to work in time for scheduled shift and with proper driving credentials on his/her/their person and is ready to work
  • Maintains current knowledge and is in compliance with local, county, and state traffic laws
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspection of the Autonomous Vehicle. This includes conducting an external/internal visual inspection of the vehicle and testing all necessary equipment, operating devices, and controls
  • Properly care for assigned vehicle and all components as prescribed by the Company
  • Completes accident and incident reports
  • Control and manage emergency situations according to company procedures
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures
  • Able to work in a team environment and drive with another person. Maintain cooperative behavior towards fellow team members, leads, supervisors, and managers
  • Requires flexibility in work schedule
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Candidates must have and maintain a clean driving record for the previous 3 years, no DUIs for previous 10 years, and never at fault in an accident that resulted in injury of any person
  • Prior experience as an Operator/Driver for Autonomous Vehicles, including some type of internal or external training on Autonomous Vehicle technology is preferred
  • Basic working-knowledge of Autonomous Vehicle technology
  • Experience with NHTSA Levels 2-5 Autonomous Vehicles preferred
  • Experience and training on providing subjective feedback on vehicle behaviors and environment
  • Must be able to successfully complete in-house driving course/examination
  • Local knowledge in test city of streets, geography, and environmental features that may be challenging for Autonomous Vehicles
  • Basic knowledge of how to navigate through a smartphone using applications to complete job duties
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Able to work days, nights, and weekends
  • Must be able to use company communication systems and communicate clearly and effectively both written and verbally
  • Must be able to read a map and possess knowledge of the local area
  • Must be able to arrive to work with proper hygiene and clean appearance
  • Must qualify to be a ride-share driver
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of driving experience

Physical Demands

  • Requires near/far/depth and color vision to safely operate Autonomous Vehicles and computer screens
  • Able to be in confined seated position to operate vehicle for up to four (4) hours at a time for a total of up to ten (10) hours per day
  • Able to be to be a driver and a passenger in an Autonomous Vehicle
  • Able to operate grip gear shift, brake release, and steering wheel requiring coupling forces up to ten (10) lbs. 
  • Reach to either left or right shoulder to pull seat belt across body  
  • Walking around the vehicle at beginning and end of shift for inspection of vehicle. Will also inspect underneath of vehicle for leaks or damage
  • Able to stay awake and alert on shift at all times

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, road conditions, and pedestrian traffic. The team member is regularly exposed to mechanical and computer parts. The team member is occasionally exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles. The noise level in the environment is low to moderate.

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors including but not limited to specific skills, experience and expertise, role location, certifications, licenses, and business needs. Salary Range

$44,000$52,000 USD
