Join our Team as an Automation Systems Engineer!

The Role:

We're seeking an innovative and collaborative Automation Systems Engineer to help design the next generation of intelligent material handling equipment. In this role, you'll develop and integrate IoT technologies, embedded electronics, sensors, and automation systems that power advanced forklifts and connected material handling solutions. You'll collaborate across software, robotics, electrical, and mechanical engineering to solve complex technical challenges while creating products that improve safety, productivity, and customer experience. We value innovative and creative ideas - yes, even during meetings (where snacks are always welcome). If you enjoy tackling challenges with positivity and a bit of humor, you’ll feel right at home here.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Design, develop, and integrate embedded hardware, electronics, and IoT technologies supporting automation and telematics systems.
  • Research, prototype, and validate emerging technologies, sensors, and automation capabilities for future product development.
  • Translate customer and product requirements into functional specifications and system architectures.
  • Develop technical requirements, participate in supplier and electrical architecture design reviews, and partner with suppliers and manufacturing to deliver high-quality, manufacturable products.
  • Integrate, validate, and troubleshoot sensors, controllers, communication networks, embedded hardware, and OEM forklift systems.
  • Develop control algorithms supporting operator assistance, automation, robotics, and other safety-critical applications.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop integrated automation solutions and resolve complex engineering challenges.
  • Lead technical development of assigned components by identifying risks and implementing innovative solutions.
  • Develop engineering documentation, validation plans, test procedures, and reports while analyzing results to improve system performance, reliability, and quality.
  • Mentor fellow engineers while researching and recommending emerging technologies that drive future product innovation.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience with electronics design, PCB design, circuit design, embedded hardware, and hardware/software integration.
  • Working knowledge of embedded programming.
  • Hands-on experience using electronic diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMMs), logic analyzers, and programmable power supplies.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex technical challenges.
  • A solid foundation in digital logic, mathematical logic, or a closely related field.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A risk-aware mindset with the ability to anticipate downstream impacts and evaluate potential solutions before implementation.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative engineering environment.

What Sets You Apart:

  • Passion for innovation, continuous learning, and proactively solving complex engineering challenges while developing both systems-level understanding and deep technical expertise.
  • Experience developing IoT, connected vehicle, telematics, industrial automation, robotics, or autonomous systems.
  • Experience with CAN communication, serial protocols, embedded controllers, vehicle electronics, and tools such as CANalyzer, CANape, or similar.
  • Experience developing electromechanical systems using Embedded Linux, RTOS, and communication protocols including Ethernet, SPI, I²C, UART, LIN, and CAN FD.
  • Experience with system integration, hardware validation, root cause analysis, functional safety, DFMEA, DVP&R, and engineering change management.
  • Experience integrating sensors such as cameras, radar, lidar, ultrasonic sensors, IMUs, or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with SICK Safety Designer, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar engineering development tools.
  • Previous experience designing products for automotive, material handling, industrial equipment, robotics, or autonomous systems.

Where and When You’ll Work:
