Automation Specialist

Position Summary: 

The purpose of this position is to provide technical support in the troubleshooting of electrical and control systems and machinery throughout the facility. Design, modify and upgrade electrical control systems. Additionally, assist in the development of electrical skills in our maintenance department inclusive of maintaining documentation as directed. Perform other tasks as directed.

Essential Duties

  • Support all maintenance and capital electrical projects as directed including supervision of electrical specialty mechanics. This shall include control system design, drawing development, material selection and supervision of fabrication and installation of control and electrical systems.
  • Review and approve electrical schematics changes and updates made under your direction providing this information to engineering. Drawings shall be updated with corrections, recorded and distributed to the correct panels.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and Good Manufacturing Practice policies and procedures in areas of own responsibility; provide ongoing training and enforcement as appropriate. This shall include design and implementation of redundant electrical safety circuits as per code and general industrial practices. 
  • Assist in developing and updating an electrical PM program. Review current machine PM schedules and steps and suggest changes as needed to encompass electrical devices and cleaning procedures.
  • Assist in the standardization of controls throughout the production areas. Engage local vendors to ensure we are utilizing the best devices and that we are standardizing machinery for common parts.
  • Analyze electrical processes and methods; recommend and implement changes and new programs which improve costs. Administer the practical exams for mechanics seeking to gain the electrical specialty skill. Provide guidance to them and offer methods for improvement to hone their skill set.

Minimum Experience: 

Total Yrs. of Experience: 5 to 7 years

Associates degree in electrical related studies or 5 years’ experience. 

Equipment/Software Skills:

PC Literacy. Electrical power, control, and PLC diagnostic skills.

Minimum Qualifications – Education, Skills & Abilities: 

Minimum Formal Education: Associate Degree

Major: Electrical

Skills and Abilities:

1) The ideal candidate is required to have good organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.

2) Important to have good problem solving skills.

3) Critical and forward thinking important.

Physical: Must have the ability to sit and walk for extended periods of times on a daily basis.

Sensory: Must utilize all senses as normal.

Mental/Reasoning: Must have strong analytical and problem solving abilities to accommodate a quick paced environment (a quick thinker).
