Summary: A leading medical technology and life sciences manufacturer is undergoing a digital transformation of its production floor and is looking to hire an Automation Software Engineer to drive integration between automated equipment, MES systems, and analytics platforms. This role focuses on building C#/.NET middleware and API layers to ensure seamless data flow, improved traceability, and enhanced operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain C#/.NET middleware and APIs to integrate manufacturing equipment with MES, SPC, and data platforms.
- Design, implement, and consume REST and SOAP APIs for system-to-system communication and data exchange.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define integration requirements and deliver scalable, maintainable solutions.
- Document technical workflows and system behaviors using flowcharts and sequence diagrams to align all stakeholders.
- Support the full SDLC: design, coding, testing, validation, deployment, and maintenance.
- Execute system integration activities directly on or near the production floor, ensuring hardware-software compatibility.
- Contribute to project planning by identifying risks, tracking deliverables, and flagging potential delays.
- Ensure MES integration aligns with production workflows and compliance standards.
Required Skills
- Strong experience in C# and .NET Framework (or .NET Core) for backend and integration development.
- Expertise in designing, developing, and consuming REST and SOAP APIs in production environments.
- Hands-on experience with MES platforms (e.g., Critical Manufacturing, FACTORYworks, or similar).
- Proficient in working with relational databases and PL/SQL (Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MS SQL).
- Familiarity with automation communication protocols (e.g., OPC-UA, Modbus, SECS/GEM).
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing setting, including integration with physical equipment and operational teams.
- Strong communication, system analysis, and documentation skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- 4+ years of experience in manufacturing or industrial software development (or 2+ with a Master’s).
Bonus Skills
- WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) desktop application development experience.
- Knowledge of SPC platforms (e.g., Camline SPACE, InfinityQS).
- Exposure to Linux/Unix systems.
- Familiarity with PLCs, machine vision, and industrial troubleshooting.
- Experience in regulated industries and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean).
