Description
The Entry Level Machinist is the starting point for a machining career at DeShazo — learning to set up and run CNC equipment, read prints, and produce mechanical components for our material handling equipment and automation systems, with hands-on guidance from experienced machinists. Most jobs here are custom, one-off parts, so you'll be learning to work through something new far more often than repeating a process you already know.
DUTIES:
• Learn to safely operate CNC machining equipment under the guidance of experienced machinists.
• Run proven jobs — load, cycle, unload, and check parts against the print.
• Learn to read prints and BOMs, and check finished features and dimensions against them.
• Use standard measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, indicators) to verify parts and hold size.
• Learn to apply tool wear offsets, and recognize when something is off enough to stop and ask.
• Build toward setting up and running your own jobs as your skills develop — including jobs with little or no repeat history.
• Keep your workstation, tooling, and materials organized.
• Ask questions and flag anything uncertain rather than guessing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or GED, or current enrollment in a machining or manufacturing trade program.
• Willingness to learn hands-on machining skills from experienced machinists — no prior shop experience required.
• Basic computer skills (Windows, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel).
• Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions closely.
• Comfortable working on a variety of different parts rather than the same job repeatedly.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Any exposure to a machining, CNC, or manufacturing trade school program.
• Some comfort with blueprints or basic shop math (fractions, decimals, geometry).
• You've used calipers or micrometers before.
• Forklift experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Regularly lift up to 25 lbs.
• Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
• Stand/walk for 8-10-hour shifts
• Be able to work in any position (reach, bend, kneel, etc.)
• Ability to learn quickly and retain information long term
BENEFITS AVAILABLE:
