What you will do
The Automation Engineer position has a high degree of visibility and opportunity within JCI. This individual will use their technical knowledge and expertise to assist manufacturing in the development of new manufacturing processes and standards using a variety of automation and mechanical engineering concepts. The engineer will have a full range of responsibility from concept to production including but not limited to: project management, VOC, capital justification, wiring sketches, exploded view assembly procedures, test fixture creation, automated assembly, and documentation support. This position requires a creative problem solver that understands Design for Manufacturing, automation, product/process flow, and lean manufacturing technology.
How you will do it
- Work with manufacturing and engineering teams to determine the requirements of the machine and develop specifications for machine functions, user interface, and quality control for high reliability.
- Design automated assembly line equipment and programming.
- Design automated test fixtures and maintenance.
- Bill of materials creation and maintenance.
- Test procedure creation and maintenance.
- Work closely with manufacturing to monitor and improve efficiency and output.
- Machine vision systems.
- Develop new software and hardware designs to meet machine requirements.
- Research components and technology available from suppliers, determine ways to increase reliability of controls and reduce costs.
- Train and mentor peer group on automation concepts and skills
- Work with manufacturing and maintenance teams to troubleshoot existing automation to improve reliability.
- Understand and implement customer standards for dedicated equipment and participate in design reviews. Guide startup of machines and perform troubleshooting with mechanical and electrical technicians. Configure drives, network communications, and other intelligent machine devices. Calibrate machines for position accuracy and dynamic response. Assist with remote customer support and troubleshooting. Update documentation and prepare portions of machine operation and service manuals.

Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field
- 3+ years practical experience in an automation manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of product/process flow, Design for high volume manufacture including robotic automation.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor /AutoCAD, RSLogix 5000 PLC programming, Fanuc robotics.
- Excellent problem solver with a high degree of engineering curiosity.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in the operation and use of Microsoft based communications, including Microsoft Project.
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $85,000-$120,000(Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This position includes a competitive benefits package. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role.
