Role Summary
We are looking for a hands-on Automation & Data Platform Engineer to design, build, and maintain workflow automations, event-driven integrations, and data platform pipelines across n8n, Node-RED, and Databricks. This role sits at the intersection of systems integration, workflow orchestration, API engineering, and cloud data operations.
The ideal candidate has deep experience in n8n, strong hands-on experience in Node-RED and/or Databricks, and is comfortable building secure, scalable integrations between business systems, APIs, and data platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain production-grade workflows in n8n for business process automation, API orchestration, alerts, approvals, and data movement.
- Develop and support Node-RED flows for event-driven integrations, real-time data processing, device/system connectivity, and API-based automations.
- Integrate n8n and Node-RED workflows with Databricks jobs, notebooks, SQL warehouses, and REST APIs.
- Build automations that trigger Databricks workloads, monitor job status, handle retries, and route outputs to downstream systems.
- Work with engineering and data teams to move data reliably between SaaS systems, internal services, and the Databricks platform.
- Implement authentication, secret handling, logging, observability, and error handling across all workflows.
- Create reusable templates, shared components, and best practices for low-code and API-led integration development.
- Support CI/CD, testing, version control, and deployment processes for automation and data platform assets.
- Document workflows, integration patterns, operational runbooks, and architecture decisions.
Must-Have Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience with n8n in production environments.
- Good practical experience with Node-RED for event-driven flows, REST integrations, and workflow development.
- Good practical experience with Databricks, especially jobs, notebooks, SQL, and platform/API integration.
- Solid understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, JSON, OAuth2, API keys, and service-to-service authentication.
- Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and at least one scripting language used around data or automation, such as Python.
- Experience with Docker, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong debugging skills across distributed workflows and API-based integrations.
- Ability to design reliable automations with retry logic, idempotency, monitoring, and alerting.
Preferred Requirements
- Experience with Databricks Jobs API, SQL Statement Execution API, or other Databricks platform APIs.
- Experience integrating workflow tools with data platforms, message queues, or event streams.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Experience with PostgreSQL, Delta/SQL, or other operational and analytical data stores.
- Exposure to governance, access control, secrets management, and auditability in regulated environments.
- Experience with IoT, telemetry, or operational systems is a plus if Node-RED will be used beyond pure SaaS integration.
What Success Looks Like
- Critical automations are stable, monitored, and easy to support.
- Databricks workloads can be triggered and managed cleanly from integration workflows.
- Reusable patterns reduce one-off flow sprawl across n8n and Node-RED.
- Business and data teams can rely on secure, documented, production-ready integrations.
