Our Automated Material Handling Systems (AMHS) team supports the factory with automated delivery and storage of lots across the factory. We are looking for a highly driven, passionate, and disciplined individual to join our team as an AMHS Controls Software Engineer.
The successful candidate will work on AMHS Material Controls Systems (MCS), including representing/leading integrated needs in cross-functional and cross-site teams. High attention to detail will be expected to prevent unintended changes or process variations. As issues arise, you will be required to troubleshoot and provide global support including off hours on a rotational on-call assignment basis.
As a Manufacturing Systems Software Development Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in advancing Intel's world-class manufacturing capabilities. By helping design, develop, and maintain AMHS MCS software systems, you will contribute directly to the efficiency and innovation of Intel's High Volume Manufacturing processes. You will have the opportunity to solve complex challenges, optimize cutting-edge automation systems, and ensure Intel remains a leader in technology. This role is critical in transforming manufacturing operations, enabling faster production cycles, and supporting the creation of groundbreaking technologies that shape the future.
Your responsibilities will be, but not limited to:
- Designs, integrates, tests, installs, configures, and/or supports Factory Automation AMHS controls software systems, coordinating factory requirements, map them to automation systems capabilities, and drive technical solutions.
- Generate metrics to measure overall/key areas of equipment performance (KPIs) and analysis of such metrics would be used to drive effective improvements across the operation.
- Drives continuous improvement efforts to meet Automation systems health goals, as well as emerging capability needs.
- Serves as expert for a designated set of automation AMHS controls systems, including representing integrated needs in cross-functional and cross-site teams.
- Position may include software development/scripting of related enhancements, supplier requirements, integrated release testing, supplemental systems, monitors, dashboards, and/or support and other monitoring tools.
- Support Intel's 24x7 high availability automation environment and be part of an on-call rotation group outside of normal business hours.
You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Experience would be obtained through a combination of prior education level classes, and current level school classes, projects, research, and relevant previous job and/or internship experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
A PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science, Bachelor's degree 2+ years of relevant experience, OR Master's degree and 1+ years of relevant experience such as:
- Proficiency in high-level programming languages such as C, C++, or Python.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, including unit testing and software integration.
- Hands-on experience with software debugging and problem-solving in complex systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with semiconductor High Volume Manufacturing processes.
- AMHS Material Controls Systems (MCS) experience
- Proficiency in Linux, Unix and Perl or Python for data extraction and analysis.
- Knowledge of automated material handling systems (AMHS) hardware and control systems.
- Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design of Experiments (DOE), and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of project management, with knowledge of project management tools and techniques.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional environments.
- Familiarity with middleware fundamentals and automated material handling systems for manufacturing.

Annual Salary Range for jobs which could be performed in the US: $128,880.00-245,160.00 USD
