WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE IN THIS ROLE

As an AutoCAD Designer at nVent, you will be a key member of the engineering team focused primarily on creating detailed 2D AutoCAD shop drawings for custom enclosure projects. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys turning engineering concepts and BOMs into accurate manufacturing drawings that support production from start to finish. You will:

• Create and maintain detailed 2D AutoCAD drawings for electrical enclosures, panels, brackets, and associated components.
• Develop complete drawing packages from approved customer designs, engineering specifications, and bills of materials (BOMs).
• Produce manufacturing and shop drawings used throughout fabrication, assembly, and production.
• Utilize AutoCAD tools such as dynamic blocks, tool palettes, and drawing libraries to efficiently create and modify designs.
• Interpret engineering requirements and translate them into clear, accurate mechanical drawings for production teams.
• Generate flat patterns and fabrication drawings for sheet metal manufacturing processes, including laser cutting, punching, and bending.
• Revise and update drawings based on engineering changes, customer feedback, and production needs.
• Verify drawings meet dimensional tolerances, material specifications, and company design standards.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective.
• Maintain organized drawing files, standards, and document control procedures.
• Support prototype builds, production troubleshooting, and design validation activities as needed.
• Perform limited 3D modeling and design work when required to support project needs.

YOU HAVE

• Associate degree, diploma, or technical training in Drafting, Mechanical Engineering Technology, CAD Technology, or a related field preferred.
• 2+ years of experience creating 2D AutoCAD drawings in a manufacturing, sheet metal, fabrication, construction, or industrial environment preferred.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, including experience with dynamic blocks, tool palettes, drawing libraries, and efficient drafting workflows.
• Experience creating detailed mechanical and fabrication drawings from engineering requirements and BOMs.
• Understanding of sheet metal design principles, bend allowances, tolerances, and manufacturing documentation, preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
• Familiarity with fabrication processes such as laser cutting, CNC punching, and press brake operations preferred.
• Exposure to 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Revit, or similar is a plus, but the role is primarily focused on 2D AutoCAD design.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Collaborative mindset and willingness to work closely with engineering and production teams in a fast-paced environment.
