Description

We are looking for an experienced medical office personnel to join our team! The Authorization and Referrals position will be part of a team that is responsible for obtaining and logging all necessary prior authorizations and/or referrals into our Electronic Health Records (Epic) and medical billing system prior to scheduled appointments.

  • Receive, track and obtain insurance authorization from primary care physicians, in-network and out-of-network insurance carriers for New Patient and Follow-Up visits with our medical providers.
  • Analyze daily schedule for patients needing prior authorization.
  • Request and obtain all authorizations prior to patients scheduled appointment/treatment.
  • Prepare and enter all authorizations into the Epic.
  • Communicate to direct supervisor any potential authorization issues.
  • Positively communicate and interact with patients
  • Team player with front office staff and able to help with other tasks as needed
  • Welcomes and greets all patients and visitors, in person or over the phone
  • Answers the phone while maintaining a polite, consistent phone manner using proper telephone etiquette
  • Registers new patients and updates existing patient demographics by collecting detailed patient information including personal and financial information
  • Facilitates patient flow by notifying the provider of patients' arrival, being aware of delays, and communicating with patients and clinical staff
  • Responds to inquiries by patients, prospective patients, and visitors in a courteous manner
  • Keeps medical office supplies adequately stocked by anticipating inventory needs, and monitoring office equipment
  • Protects patient confidentiality, making sure protected health information is secured by not leaving PHI in plain sight and logging off the computer before leaving it unattended.
  • Collecting co-pays and patient balances
  • Reconciling end of day collections
  • Understand and uphold HIPAA regulations

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of medical office experience with referrals and authorization experience desired
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Able to prioritize work flow
  • Computer skills: Electronic Health Records (EPIC) , Outlook email, Windows, Microsoft Word, On-line insurance carrier websites
  • Must have knowledge of healthcare field and medical specialty, medical terminology, knowledge of general administrative and clerical procedures, working knowledge of healthcare insurance preferred and proper grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Computer skills: Electronic Health Records, Outlook email, Windows, Microsoft Word, On-line Insurance Carrier websites
  • Bilingual English/Spanish helpful
