We are looking
for a Tax Accountant to manage key financial processes, including payroll administration,
preparation of financial statements, and GST compliance. The role requires
strong accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to support
accurate financial reporting while maintaining compliance with relevant
regulations. The ideal candidate has experience in public practice environments
and can effectively utilize accounting systems to support financial operations,
making this role critical to maintaining financial accuracy, compliance, and
informed business decision-making.
- Process
payroll accurately and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and
reporting requirements.
- Prepare
draft financial statements, working papers, and supporting documentation for
review.
- Manage
GST preparation, reconciliation, lodgment support, and related compliance
activities.
- Maintain
accurate financial records and ensure the integrity of accounting data.
- Perform
bank, payroll, and balance sheet reconciliations on a regular basis.
- Assist
with cash flow reporting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities.
- Prepare
and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end reports.
- Support
tax compliance activities and assist with the preparation of tax-related
documentation.
- Collaborate
with internal and external stakeholders to gather financial information and
resolve discrepancies.
- Utilize
accounting software and financial management systems to maintain efficient
workflows and accurate reporting.
- Ensure
compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and
organizational policies.
- Contribute
to process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and financial
reporting capabilities.
Requirements
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in
Accountancy, Accounting Technology, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
- At least 3 years of accounting
experience, preferably within a public practice environment.
- Previous experience working in
a similar accounting environment.
- Knowledge of payroll
processing, financial statement preparation, and GST compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with New Zealand
accounting and taxation systems are preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in Xero accounting
software.
- Experience using financial
management and practice management systems; familiarity with FYI and Figured for
cash flow management is advantageous.
- Knowledge of XPM and FYI is
advantageous but not required.
- Strong understanding of
accounting principles, bookkeeping, and financial reporting standards.
- Excellent analytical,
problem-solving, and reconciliation skills.
- High level of accuracy and
attention to detail when handling financial data.
- Strong written and verbal
communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple
priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Positive, proactive, and
can-do attitude with a willingness to take initiative and contribute to the team success.
