Primary responsibilities include providing advice and counsel to management and programs as part of Legal Services’ Operations Team to include representing DHHS in employment matters. Other duties may include developing responses to tort/contract/miscellaneous claims made against DHHS, collecting debt on behalf of DHHS, compliance, procurement and contracting, discovery, and public records responses and retention.
Hiring rate of position: Negotiable; Pay rate may be commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints, if approved

Attorney I: Rate of pay $25.433-$37.491 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Attorney II: Rate of pay $29.395-$43.331per hour, commensurate with experience.

Attorney III: Rate of pay $35.982-$53.970 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Attorney I: Graduation from an accredited school of law and admission to the Nebraska Bar. 

Attorney II: One year of experience as an attorney practicing law and providing legal services such as preparing cases, advising clients, and/or interpreting laws or administrative policies. 

Attorney III: Three years of experience as an attorney practicing law and providing legal services such as preparing and trying cases, advising clients, and/or interpreting laws or administrative policies. 

We will consider candidates who will graduate with the minimum qualifications by May of 2026 that are taking the July, 2026 bar exam that will be sworn in during September, 2026. We will also consider candidates admitted to the bar in another jurisdiction eligible to be admitted to the Nebraska Bar by Motion contingent upon them becoming admitted to the Nebraska Bar. Applicants in the following classes must meet the following minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Legal Requirements: In accordance with Section 7-101, Nebraska Revised, Reissued Statutes of l943, incumbents in this class must be admitted to the Nebraska Bar.

Preferred Qualifications: Legal experience with employment and labor relations, litigation, and/or ethics and compliance.


 

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

Excellent legal research and communication skills. Ability to interpret and communicate the legal effect of labor contracts or other transactional documents; analyze the application of relevant law to specific facts; recognize the impact of developing legislation and case law on the agency and its programs; and interpret complex federal and state constitutional, statutory, and regulatory law.

Skills Required
