The Associate is a key member of the investment team, working directly on deals from origination through execution and asset management. The Associate assists in conducting due diligence of potential infrastructure and renewable resources investment opportunities; preparing and presenting materials to investment committees; and monitoring existing investments. This individual has a strong understanding of private markets / infrastructure investing and corporate finance principles, contributing significantly to the department's investment activities.

On behalf of BCI’s clients, the Infrastructure & Renewable Resources (I&RR) team invests globally in infrastructure assets and businesses that provide stable long-term investment returns. BCI’s I&RR portfolio has $32+ billion in AUM and ranks as the ninth largest institutional infrastructure investor globally. The portfolio spans a range of sectors including energy, transport, utilities, and data infrastructure as well as tangible assets such as timberland and agriculture.
I&RR seeks meaningful investments predominantly in private companies that allow us to pursue an active governance approach. The team invests in a variety of capacities in private markets including as a sole sponsor, co-sponsor, and very selectively through externally managed funds. In addition, I&RR takes positions in listed infrastructure businesses as well as debt investments as a complementary strategy to private markets investments.
In 2023, the I&RR team established their first international presence with the inauguration of their London, U.K. office. The new London office serves as a strong platform for the team to originate and manage investments in the U.K. and European markets, further solidifying BCI's commitment to global expansion and diversification.
Undergraduate university degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field
Minimum 3-5 years’ experience within a leading private equity / asset management firm, investment bank, advisory/consultancy firm, corporate development team, or direct exposure to private market investments
Advanced financial modeling capabilities with proven ability to build complex, dynamic models
Strong understanding of private markets / infrastructure investing and a sound understanding of corporate finance principles
Excellent interpersonal skills: i.e., a proven ability to build lasting trust-based relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with ability to distill complex information
Expert-level Excel and PowerPoint skills
Experience with data rooms, process management tools, and financial databases (Capital IQ, Bloomberg)
Understanding of project finance, corporate finance, and infrastructure debt markets
Previous infrastructure investment experience, with an emphasis on the energy sector (midstream/power and utilities), and/or Transportation including Public-Private Partnerships
International education and/or experience
Professional designation completed or in progress (CFA, CBV, CPA, LLB, or MBA) is an asset
Conducts general industry, company, and fund research
Identifies emerging investment themes in Infrastructure
Assists in analyzing identified direct or fund investment opportunities
Leads financial modeling and valuation analysis for investment opportunities
Assists due diligence workstreams including technical, commercial, and regulatory analysis
Prepares internal investment committee approval materials (e.g. Investment Memorandum and other deal-related materials)
Presents investment recommendations to BCI's Investment Committee
Assists in the monitoring of existing investments
Oversees the end-of-the-year valuation of direct and indirect investments
Supports the review of annual budgets and prepare supporting analysis
Assists in preparation of long-term portfolio strategies
Travels when required, for due diligence or asset management
This role will be based in our office in downtown Victoria, BC
The annualized salary range for this role is CAD $112,000 - $136,000
BCI offers a competitive total rewards package, including a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, and paid time off. We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we operate and with consideration for internal equity and job structure. The base salary will consider factors such as the individual's skill set, experience, and internal equity. We aim for actual pay to be around the market median for expected performance and the upper quartile for excellent performance. Actual salaries may vary based on experience and expertise.
