This role is responsible for managing the end-to-end process of onboarding new providers and practices into SMG, ensuring a seamless and collaborative experience for all involved. The AVP plays a central role in advancing access, enhancing market presence, and supporting the implementation of the SMG Strategic Plan in partnership with senior leadership.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Master’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or a related field AND five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare operations, strategy, or provider relations.

2. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or a related field AND seven (7) years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare operations, strategy, or provider relations.

1. Relationship Development & Market Outreach
Serves as the external ambassador for the SMG, building trusted relationships with community physicians, hospital leaders, and independent practices to identify growth opportunities and strategic alignment.
Leads outreach efforts that promote SMG’s mission, value, and service offerings across the region.
2. Provider Integration & Transition Management
Manages the integration of providers and practices transitioning from local hospital employment into SMG.
Oversee onboarding workflows and ensure alignment with compliance, HR, legal, medical leadership, and operations teams.
Coordinates transition plans that promote efficiency, cultural fit, and a high-quality onboarding experience.
3. Team Development and Leadership
Leads and mentors a high-performing team and fosters a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
4. Operational Execution of Growth Strategies
Partners with CEO, President, and VP of SMG to support the execution of SMG’s infrastructure development growth plans.
Help advance new service lines, access initiatives, and regional partnerships that enhance clinical reach and provider impact.
5. Data, Metrics & Reporting
Develops tools to track progress toward integration milestones, provider pipeline status, and outreach outcomes.
Regularly reports on business development performance to SMG leadership and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement.
6. Contract Negotiations
Negotiate and finalize contracts with providers, ensure favorable terms and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Assure consistency and transparency across specialties and markets and with UHA, as appropriate.
Recommend and pursue improvements to assure compliance, competitive advantage and accountability in physician employment practices.
7. Internal & External Collaboration
Acts as a key liaison between SMG and hospital/system leaders across WVUHS and UHA.
Collaborates with Outreach, Marketing, and Communications teams to ensure alignment with provider engagement, referral growth, and public awareness initiatives.
8. Strategic Support & Alignment
Supports the development and refinement of SMG's provider network strategy through field insights, physician feedback, and market trends.
Helps ensure alignment between local integration efforts and broader SMG organizational goals.
9. Representation & Advocacy
Represents SMG at local, regional, and organizational meetings, effectively communicating strategic priorities and acting as a liaison between community providers and system leadership.
