Associate/Vice President, Asia Credit Research Analyst

Position Overview

PIMCO is a global leader in active fixed income with deep expertise across public and private markets. Credit Analysts at PIMCO specialize in a range of industries and evaluate opportunities across the capital structure, including investment grade, high yield, bank debt, and convertible securities.

We are seeking a highly motivated credit investment professional to join our Credit Research team in Hong Kong as an Associate or Vice President, depending on experience and qualifications.

The successful candidate will conduct fundamental credit research on corporate issuers, generate differentiated investment recommendations, and partner closely with portfolio managers across Asia and globally to identify compelling risk-adjusted investment opportunities. While the role will initially focus on Asian corporate credits, the successful candidate will be part of PIMCO's integrated global research platform and will have the opportunity to broaden coverage responsibilities over time based on investment team needs, market opportunities, and individual development.

This role reports to a Senior Vice President, Credit Research, based in Hong Kong, and offers significant exposure to investment decision-making, regular interaction with senior investment professionals globally, and the opportunity to develop into a global sector specialist within one of the industry's premier credit research organizations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct fundamental bottom-up credit research on corporate issuers across a range of industries and sectors, with an initial focus on Asia-Pacific markets.
  • Analyze corporate business models, competitive positioning, capital structures, financial performance, liquidity profiles, and credit fundamentals.
  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models, earnings forecasts, valuation frameworks, and relative value analyses.
  • Generate independent investment recommendations and differentiated relative value ideas for regional and global portfolio managers.
  • Monitor portfolio holdings and identify emerging risks, changing market dynamics, and new investment opportunities across covered sectors.
  • Proactively communicate investment views and recommendations to portfolio managers, investment committees, and research colleagues globally.
  • Produce high-quality written research including company evaluations, earnings reviews, quarterly updates, industry studies, thematic research, and relative value analyses.
  • Assess macroeconomic, geopolitical, regulatory, and industry developments and their impact on corporate credit markets.
  • Conduct meetings with company management teams, industry participants, rating agencies, sell-side analysts, and other market stakeholders.
  • Present investment views, sector outlooks, market developments, and thematic research to internal and external audiences, including clients where appropriate.
  • Collaborate closely with credit analysts and portfolio management teams across Asia, Europe, Latin America, and North America, contributing to PIMCO's global investment process.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years or more relevant experience in corporate credit research, investing, or related disciplines.
  • Fluency in Mandarin and English, proficiency across speaking, reading, writing to ensure regional coverage. Spanish and Japanese language skill is a plus.

  • Proven experience independently covering sectors and developing actionable investment recommendations and financial models
  • Demonstrated ability to influence investment decisions through differentiated research and conviction-driven investment views.
  • Ability to evaluate both bottom-up company fundamentals and top-down macroeconomic and industry trends and make informed judgments regarding credit risk and valuation.
  • Strong understanding of Asian corporate credit markets and institutional investment processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience covering Asian corporate credits across various industrial sectors and countries highly desirable. Experience in private credit market is a plus.
  • Experience in debt restructuring advisory or distressed credit investment is a plus.
  • Ability to independently formulate and advocate investment recommendations rather than relying on consensus views.
  • High degree of intellectual curiosity, commercial judgment, and attention to detail.
  • Passion for credit investing and a desire to build a long-term career in investment research.
  • Strong academic credentials and record of achievement; MBA preferred.
  • CFA and/or CMA designation is a plus.
