Role description:

Associate Technical Director – Structures
We are seeking to recruit an Associate Technical Director for our growing team in India to work alongside our United States (US) counterparts for the technical delivery of structural designs for Transportation projects. The individual shall be conversant with US standards such as those of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and multiple state Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations with expertise in the Design-Build Environment. It is desirable that the candidate hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the US, preferably from the states of Georgia, Florida, and/or Tennessee.

Role Accountabilities:

The role involves managing and supporting the pursuit of business opportunities and the successful execution of projects within the organization. The ideal candidate will have a combination of technical competencies; exposure to US Mobility (Transportation) projects; strategic thinking, people management, and project management skills; and a deep understanding of the project delivery process. The candidate must manage existing teams and is expected to be involved in developing the teams in terms of competency and capacity to cater to the increased demand from the US. The candidate in this role is expected to achieve all expectations of project delivery in terms of quality, schedule, budget, and value addition.

Project Pursuit and Delivery: 

  • Work with a multi-disciplinary pursuit team to develop winning bids for projects
  • Manage and deliver single and multi-disciplinary projects, including Design-Build projects, using US design codes and software packages
  • Deliver concept designs, alternative technical concepts, detailed design, and construction phase support on Design-Build and other projects, including meeting requirements for structural design, Building Information Modelling (BIM), computer-aided design (CAD), and quantity estimation
  • Identify and implement opportunities to incorporate standardization and automation into the design process to improve efficiency and quality of design
  • Deliver projects as per business norms in terms of schedule, budget, and quality
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination among all team members
  • Oversee competency and quality through a robust Quality Management System, and ensure the timely submission of deliverables

Resource Acquisition Support:

  • Identify resource needs for pursuits and projects, and contribute to strategic resource acquisition plans
  • Coordinate with other departments or external partners to acquire resources

Team Mentor: 

  • Ensure development of the team according to market needs in terms of both capacity and capability, thereby setting growth targets
  • Identify gaps and provide guidance for developing high competencies within the team for comprehensive project reviews, forecasting, and resource management
  • Actively liaise with US offices, connect with US senior leadership, develop growth roadmaps, and drive continuous improvements within the team

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Minimum 12 years of experience on international multi-disciplinary projects in Highway, Rail, Civil & Structural, Metro, and Infrastructure domains
  • Experience in a prior senior structural engineering role, with the ability to understand and evaluate the scope of US projects with minimum 10 years of working experience on international projects for highway/railway bridges in delivery various design and modelling tasks including design-build projects. 
  • Proficiency in written communication and capability to create project communications
  • Familiarity with AASHTO codes, multiple DOT regulations, US construction industry, and Arcadis' service offerings
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with structural analysis tools such as MIDAS, SAP2000, LEAP Bridge Concrete, etc. 
  • Strong organizational, coordination, and strategic decision-making skills
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse disciplines and support resource acquisition
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Georgia, Florida, and/or Tennessee is preferred, or the candidate should be able to obtain it within a short timeframe.
  • Be able to serve as a role model for Arcadis Values and Principles, especially Health & Safety stewardship
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems and the ability to apply Quality Management principles while delivering large-scale US projects from the Global Excellence Centres (GECs)

Skills Required

  • Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
