What you will do:

In this role you will: 

  • Develop and implement complex control algorithm models to perform transient analysis, supporting key strategic areas like advanced control optimization, electrification and decarbonization, power electronics, HVAC units, building management and data centers.

  • Demonstrate good understanding of software engineering concepts, Model based development for controls, auto code generation, etc. Apply this expertise to develop and analyze control system models for HVAC equipments.

  • Participate in long term technology roadmap development discussions and help build new external partnerships for Trane Technologies.

  • Work with internal and external partners in technical execution of short & long term externally funded new technology, & new product development projects.

  • Work closely with global team members, cross-functional associates and internal customers in dynamic environment, to understand the implications of modeling results and drive system level optimization and answer critical design questions through modeling results.

  • Lead the evaluation of new and innovative technologies as they appear for potential commercial value, either as disruptive competition or prospective new products or services for the company.

  • Develop and communicate clear understanding of customer requirements and meet or exceed those expectations.

  • Conceptualize & develop project ideas leading to new advanced capability development in related domain areas to keep Trane Technologies to the leading edge of technology.

  • Network across the organization and externally to identify and communicate opportunities to apply controls modelling, system modeling and simulation to product design, applications & processes.

  • Develop team, competencies and skillset in Controls modelling, algorithms development for HVAC and transport refrigeration systems.

  • Developing strategic projects, and proof of concepts on futuristic cutting-edge technologies, towards future readiness.

What you will bring:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, or related fields.

  • Work experience: 8+ years in the relevant field of Matlab/Simulink for Model Based Development. • Experience with Auto Code Generation.

  • Experience in software development best practices, including version control (e.g., Git), and agile methodologies. • Good knowledge of control systems with practical experience in closed-loop control.

  • Experience with Model In-Loop (MIL) and Hardware In-Loop (HIL) simulation.

  • Emphasis on computer programming or related experience is beneficial, particularly in C, C++ and Python.

  • Experience and knowledge in advanced nonlinear control disciplines such as adaptive or variable structure/sliding mode control, intelligent control schemes such as neural networks or fuzzy logic control. • Understanding reinforcement learning, machine learning, and predictive maintenance is desirable.

  • Experience in HVAC systems modeling, building energy management systems, or HVAC equipment and controls is desirable

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively. • Experience with CUDA and GPU Computing is a plus.

  • Understanding of Containers, HPC and Cloud technologies is a plus.

  • Expertise in communication protocols such as CAN, MODBUS, and EtherCAT is preferred.

  • Must be an innovative self-starter capable of setting and meeting goals and deadlines, and of making critical business decisions. Excellent communication and teamwork skills are necessary.

  • Demonstrate intellectual curiosity and industrial awareness, capable of applying advanced approaches, technologies, and innovations in modeling and simulation for organizational advancement.

  • Knowledge in Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) on controls development is plus.

  • Experience in coaching & mentoring technical know-how to others is preferred
