Associate Software Engineer - Integrations

HeroDevs is looking for a new addition to our Shared Services team as an Associate Software Engineer!

We're the shared services team behind HeroDevs, the company that keeps critical open-source software secure long after it reaches end of life. We build and run the platforms, pipelines, and cloud infrastructure that the rest of the company depends on, including the systems that deliver data and secure package releases to our integration partners. We care about doing things carefully, automating what shouldn't be manual, treating infrastructure as code, and giving new engineers a supportive place to grow.

Position Summary

We're seeking an Associate Software Engineer who is eager to learn, contribute, and grow into a well-rounded platform engineer. You'll work closely with the experienced engineers on our team to build, deploy, and operate the automated pipelines that move data between our internal systems, our APIs, and our integration partners,  and you'll get hands-on with the cloud infrastructure those pipelines run on.

Your manager will define the scope of each project and set the approach for how we work with partner data, so you can focus on building. This is a learning-focused role, a strong fit for recent graduates with a solid programming foundation who want real-world experience with APIs, automation, cloud services, and production systems.

Responsibilities

• Build, test, deploy, and maintain automated jobs that deliver data from internal systems to our integration partners
• Help operate the cloud infrastructure these integrations run on (compute, storage, queues, scheduled jobs), following patterns the team has established
• Work with existing HeroDevs data sources and internal APIs to retrieve, transform, and validate data
• Write scripts and small services using JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, or Python, and package them for deployment with Docker
• Build and maintain CI/CD workflows using GitHub Actions, including automated testing, builds, and deployments
• Contribute to infrastructure-as-code definitions and configuration so environments stay reproducible
• Add monitoring, logging, and alerting so delivery failures surface quickly, and help triage them when they do
• Troubleshoot and debug integration and infrastructure issues, including malformed data, failed deliveries, and broken deploys
• Follow secure handling practices for credentials, secrets, and partner data
• Collaborate with team members through code reviews and daily standups
• Write clear technical documentation and runbooks for the integrations and infrastructure you build

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Development, or a related field
• Strong foundation in at least one programming language (JavaScript/TypeScript preferred)
• Understanding of REST APIs, JSON, and how web services communicate
• Basic understanding of how software gets deployed and run,  servers, containers, environments, or cloud services
• Familiarity with databases and basic SQL queries
• Comfort working on the command line in a Linux/Unix environment
• Experience with Git or other version control tools
• Curiosity, accountability, and a willingness to learn new technologies
• Effective written communication and the ability to work well in a distributed team

Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Skills

• Exposure to Node.js and the npm ecosystem
• Familiarity with CI/CD tooling, especially GitHub Actions
• Experience with cloud services (AWS, GCP, or Azure) or containerization with Docker
• Exposure to infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation
• Any experience with observability tooling, metrics, logs, dashboards, or alerting
• Coursework, internship, or personal project experience with APIs, data pipelines, ETL, or automation
• Familiarity with Agile development and tools like GitHub, Jira, or Docker
• Interest in open-source software, supply chain security, and long-term maintenance
