Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a professional, innovative and detailed individual for our Associate Software Engineer position. As an Associate Software Engineer, a typical day might include the following:
- Applying machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies to solve real-world problems.
- Designing and building software systems that integrate machine learning models into production systems and day-to-day workflows.
- Implementing end-to-end model development workflows, including fine-tuning models, training custom models from raw data, and deploying models to production environments.
- Ingesting, cleaning, and transforming large datasets using database systems, applying standard data preparation techniques and thoughtfully managing and optimizing compute resources.
- Using robust mathematical tools across diverse areas of research to apply creative solutions to technical problems.
- Researching advanced topics and systematically and scientifically testing new ideas.
- Supporting SEL’s software development process.
- Verifying that software meets requirements.
- Providing support to engineering staff as needed.
- Following engineering quality assurance procedures.
- Continuously identifying, measuring, and improving processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Familiarity with Linux based operating systems such as Ubuntu
- Practical knowledge of web application development and REST APIs
- Knowledge of database concepts and databases such as SQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL
- Experience using revision control and source code management systems such as Git
- Familiarity with a range of subjects possibly including machine learning, linear algebra, data science, theory of computation, graph theory, signal processing, information theory, cryptography, probability, statistics, differential equations, optimization, etc.
- Experience with natural language processing, computer vision, or similar ML technologies
- Experience with parallel processing and using graphical processing units

Pay Range Data
We anticipate filling this position as an Associate Software Engineer: $84,000 — $124,000. Our compensation ranges are based on the responsibilities of the role. Starting pay is determined individually and considers factors such as relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and training. Candidates may be considered at different levels based on their background. As a result, pay may vary to align with the level of the role.
