Your role and responsibilitiesIn this role, we are looking for a highly motivated Software Engineer – Industrial AI & Cloud Applications to join our Industrial Automation Digital Organization. The role requires strong expertise in developing AI-enabled applications and cloud-native services, with hands-on experience in Large Language Model (LLM) frameworks, conversational AI, and enterprise platform development. The candidate will contribute to the design, development, and deployment of next-generation Industrial AI applications and Copilot capabilities that enable intelligent decision-making and operational excellence for ABB customers.

This role is contributing to the Process Automation Digital division based in Bangalore, India. Main stakeholders include Product Owners, Solution Architects, AI/ML Engineers, DevOps teams, Platform Engineering teams, Quality Engineering teams, and cross-functional delivery teams.
You will be mainly accountable for:Develop and enhance enterprise Copilot applications, AI services, and cloud-native engineering modules using Python, .NET, Angular, and Azure technologies.
Build backend APIs, frontend components, integrations, and scalable microservices supporting AI-driven applications and intelligent automation capabilities.
Implement AI workflows involving document search, conversational AI, prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, and orchestration services.
Develop integrations with enterprise APIs, databases, cloud services, and AI platform components to enable end-to-end business workflows.
Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to High-Level Design (HLD) and Low-Level Design (LLD) activities for assigned modules and features.
Ensure adherence to coding standards, cybersecurity best practices, engineering quality guidelines, and testing methodologies throughout the development lifecycle.
Support debugging, defect resolution, performance optimization, and production support activities to maintain application reliability and operational stability.
Develop unit tests, integration tests, and contribute to automation and CI/CD implementation activities to improve software quality and delivery efficiency.
Create and maintain technical documentation including API specifications, design documents, deployment guides, and support procedures.
Collaborate closely with Technical Leads, Architects, QA teams, DevOps engineers, and Product Owners to ensure successful sprint execution and release delivery.
Work collaboratively within Agile/Scrum teams and actively participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
Contribute to troubleshooting activities and technical problem-solving discussions to address complex engineering challenges.
Support knowledge sharing initiatives and contribute to reusable engineering frameworks, components, and best practices across teams.
Take ownership of assigned deliverables and ensure timely completion while maintaining high standards of quality and accountability.
Follow Agile engineering methodologies and continuously contribute towards improving engineering efficiency, operational effectiveness, and development processes.
Adhere to coding standards, release management practices, testing strategies, and CI/CD processes.
Collaborate with peers and leadership teams to proactively identify, communicate, and mitigate delivery risks and technical blockers.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
Proven experience of 2+ years in software engineering and enterprise application development.
Strong programming expertise in Python, .NET/C#, REST APIs, SQL, and frontend technologies such as Angular.
Experience developing web applications, backend services, microservices, and API-driven applications.
Good understanding of cloud-native application architectures, distributed systems, and microservices-based development principles.
Exposure to Microsoft Azure services, Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines is preferred.
Familiarity with AI-enabled applications, Copilot systems, Large Language Model (LLM) integrations, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), or AI workflow orchestration will be an added advantage.
Good understanding of debugging techniques, testing methodologies, performance optimization practices, and software engineering fundamentals.
Strong analytical thinking, troubleshooting capabilities, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively within cross-functional Agile teams.
Demonstrated willingness to learn and adapt to emerging technologies related to Artificial Intelligence, cloud-native engineering, and scalable enterprise platform development.
