THE OPPORTUNITYReporting to the Lead of Settlements, the Associate, Settlements brings knowledge across trade settlement and payments. The position supports the daily processing of settlements of trades and cash, ensuring transactions are executed accurately and within deadlines, and oversees settlement -related inquiries.
The Associate is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the Business as Usual (BAU) operations and works closely with members to ensure daily accountabilities are completed successfully. While expected to troubleshoot issues independently troubleshooting issues, the Associate ensures that urgent / high-risk matters are appropriately escalated.
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTIONThe Settlements team brings together the post-execution trade life cycle of publicly traded securities and cash payments functions. The team oversees the entire trade life cycle from trade matching to settlement, counterparty onboarding, and asset transitions and is accountable for ensuring that all incoming and outgoing settlements are executed and supported from initiation to delivery.
WHAT YOU BRING4+ years of progressive experience in the back and middle office of a large asset management or investment firm, including exposure to both trade settlement and payments or treasury operations
Advanced knowledge of trade settlement, payments and SWIFT
Strong understanding of trading and settling in global markets, including emerging markets · Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to facilitate post-trade and payment operations in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
‘Change Manager’ with the ability to facilitate significant changes to business processes
Effective communication and organizational skills with a proven ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet internal and external deadlines
Ability to learn, troubleshoot, and train others on new systems and technology effectively
Experience applying AI agents, automation, and emerging technologies to improve efficiency and reduce operational risk
Experience with Bloomberg, SWIFT, and payment applications is an asset University degree or diploma in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field; an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience will be considered
Provides subject matter expertise across corporate actions, trade settlement (fixed income, repos and equities), payments, and front-to-back investment management systems
Processes and settles trades across the post-execution life cycle, from trade matching through to settlement, and ensures accurate recording of transactions in BCI’s systems
Executes payments related in accordance with instructions received through the banking portal, including high-risk, high client impact, and large dollar transactions
Acts as a ‘change manager’ guiding the team through changes to business processes arising from changes in systems
Develops and implements new business procedures and ensures team procedures and templates are kept up to date, with the team informed of changes
Drives innovation by identifying and documenting opportunities that would benefit from business process and/or technology improvements, automation, and best practices
Troubleshoots issues and errors using all available resources, including custodian reporting, the accounting book of record, the investment book of record, and banking portals
Investigates queries from internal staff, BCI’s custodian, brokers, and auditors · Ensures all processes meet the minimum audit and internal control framework and actively adheres to compliance and risk management policies
Mentors and supports the training of team members
Represents the team as an SME in projects when required, and supports new workflows and processes to deliver the team’s accountabilities and support new investment strategies
Supports the delivery and implementation of new department initiatives and participates in business continuity planning
This role will be based in our office in downtown Victoria, BC.
SALARY RANGEThe annualized base salary range for this Victoria-based role is CAD $106,000 - $128,000.

The base salary will consider factors such as the individual's skill set, experience, and internal equity. We aim for actual pay to be around the market median for expected performance and the upper quartile for excellent performance. Actual salaries may vary based on experience and expertise.
