Job Description

The Associate Quality Control (QC) Scientist will ensure that company quality standards are met throughout various manufacturing processes for microbiological, next gen sequencing, and biologics products. This individual will partner with a team of quality control professionals that implement and maintain the quality management systems, support new product development, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. In partnership with site HR, manufacturing, and operational leadership, this role is expected to foster a positive work environment and a culture of ownership and accountability.

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to capably perform each of the following essential functions: 

 

  • Independently perform operational workflows, following approved documentation and using standard microbiology, analytical chemistry, and aseptic techniques
  • Process, record, and analyze data following approved test methods and work instructions and using good documentation practices
  • Support the quality control group operations in maintaining standards in safety, speed, quality, cost, & equipment
  • Support the organization’s commercial and development activities, while also ensuring compliance with applicable quality and regulatory standards
  • Identify assay and process improvement opportunities based on first-hand observation and data review
  • Maintain training requirements and execute on goal setting linked to business initiatives and other key performance indicators
  • Support in continuous improvement projects and lean manufacturing initiatives
  • Adhere to company Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) policy
  • Perform other duties as required, or assigned by management, to meet business needs

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in an applicable life sciences field (molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, etc.)—or equivalent combination of applicable education and relevant work experience
  • Prior success serving on operationally oriented or technical teams
  • Proven ability to perform standard biological laboratory techniques in support of Next Gen sequencing workflows such as PCR, liquid handling machines etc.
  • Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions to effectively meet production needs
  • Ability to gather and coordinate information, interpret and develop appropriate recommendations for effective action
  • Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior work experience in a relevant industry (pharma, biotech, or medical device)
  • Experience in cell-based assays and enzyme activity assays
  • Proven ability to perform common analytical methods, such as electrophoresis, chromatography, mass spectrometry, and spectroscopy
