Associate Scientist, Bioprocess Applications R&D

Avantor, a Global Fortune 500 company is looking for a dedicated Associate Scientist to optimize our Biopharma Production organization. This Bridgewater, NJ/ Innovation Center role is full-time, on-site.

Minimum Education Requirement:

• Bachelor’s degree (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering or related)

Required Experience (3+ yrs):

• In the operation and routine conditioning of laboratory instruments, including troubleshooting procedures & methods in accordance with established SOP.
• Performing sample analysis using bioanalytical techniques such as UV-spectrophotometry, ELISA, HPLC, and SDS-PAGE
• Compiling and analyzing experimental data, findings, and observations, to accurately document results, following Good Documentation Practices (GDP), to contribute to scientific meetings and project outcomes
• Presenting analytical findings, and experimental outcomes at internal and/ or external partner meetings.
• Utilizing safe practices while working in the laboratory environment as per EHS guidelines and policy.
• Supporting preparation & shipment of materials/samples following defined procedures
• Performing duties with the highest regard for safety and quality
• Safe laboratory practices and procedures
• Performing duties as assigned on laboratory, project, and/or initiatives

Preferred Experience:

• Preparing experimental protocols, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), analytical test methods & technical reports needed to perform work under general guidance.
• Working in a GLP/GMP facility/ relevant industry knowledge
• Reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical literature and scientific documents.
• Prioritizing tasks, problem solving, and meeting deadlines.
• Collaboration skills (IE: Microsoft Office)
• Following scientific protocols, policies, and procedures
• Working independently and managing responsibilities while following scientific direction
• Presentation skills
• Maintenance of laboratory area and instruments ready for experimental study execution and scientific products

Travel:

• Up to 15% (to both customer and alternate corporate locations)

The Associate Scientist, Bioprocess Applications R&D will be a member of a multi-disciplinary team of Scientists focused on the development and characterization of new products. Bringing a flexible, forward-thinking, and motivated persona the successful applicant while utilizing business level communication skills will:

• Be responsible for the hands-on execution of laboratory experiments and contribution to the design of scientific procedures. 
• Aid in the development and execution of scientific discoveries, new product/applications growth along with project planning and implementation as per Avantor processes.
• Conduct experimental work following Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) principles to support products/applications needs in close collaboration with internal and/or external partners.
• Setup and conduct experiments
• Manage laboratory equipment.
• Follow other protocols by collaborating with Scientists, Project technical Lead and/or Area Manager.
• Independently or jointly plan and conduct laboratory experiments (IE: material preparations (synthesis, dissolution & filtrations), cell culture, fermentation, & downstream processes (harvest & chromatography) along with chemical or biochemical analysis to advance new product/application projects though development phases.
