Summary: We are looking for an Associate Research Scientist to join our R&D team in Parsippany, NJ. You will work in a team focusing on developing innovative solutions for the roofing and waterproofing industry. This will include identifying development opportunities through market and customer insights, scaling and commercializing new products, as well as identifying new technologies relevant to business needs. The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in material evaluation and problem solving. Project assignments will require not only design and planning of experiments, but also executing the work plan at the bench. This hands-on scientist role will need to advance multiple projects in parallel.

Essential Duties:

  • Performs analyses, tests, and development of new or updated formulas that require an intermediate understanding of coatings & adhesives chemistries, product lines, and materials.
  • Adjusts product formulas, assists with raw material evaluation and selection, pilots new batch tests; assists with the development and scale up of production formulas.
  • Completes field “fitness for use” technical application tests of products to validate product/formulation changes/recommendations.
  • Serves as a team member for projects that are complex in nature and are generally subsets of larger initiatives and supports product development, quality control, manufacturing processes, and other operations.
  • Be a key contributor within cross-functional teams across R&D, Marketing, Sales and Manufacturing to scale up quickly from the lab to commercial scale.
  • Provide technical support to Marketing, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Sales.
  • Produce timely project updates, develop presentations, and report out to internal and external stakeholders. Publish technical reports and conduct presentations on key projects regularly.
  • Ability to design, conduct and direct laboratory experiments, interpretation of results and designing of follow-up experiments
  • May assist with general project management, timeline development, and other project requirements.
  • May serve as a lead to technicians or support personnel involved in the research project.

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry , material science (or similar field).
  • 2-5 years of industrial chemistry experience, experience within the paint, coatings or adhesives industry is preferred.
