About the role

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or final-year university student with background in Actuarial Studies, Economics, Statistics, Data Science or other quantitative disciplines to apply their skills to real-world economic data.

As part of the Economic Analytical and Technical Services (ECATS) team in the Reserve Bank’s Economic Analysis Department, you will support the development and enhancement of the Department's quantitative data environment used for economic modelling, forecasting and policy analysis.

This role is best suited to candidates who enjoy working with time-series data to support economic insights, modelling and analysis. It is an opportunity to continue developing your technical and analytics skills in a collaborative team environment.

Your responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance economic datasets used in forecasting and quantitative analysis

  • Support development and optimisation of data pipelines for modelling and analytical use

  • Perform data validation, statistical checks and quality assurance to ensure integrity of analytical outputs

  • Assist in preparing and administering data inputs for econometric models, forecasting frameworks and policy analysis

  • Collaborate with economists, analysts, and technical specialists to improve data usability for modelling and research

  • Respond to data queries with a focus on analytical accuracy and interpretation

About you

  • Recently completed or in final year of a degree in Actuarial Studies, Economics, Statistics, Data Science or other quantitative disciplines

  • Proficiency in R, Python or SQL, with strong data manipulation capability (Excel expected)

  • Interest in applying data to economic analysis, forecasting or policy-related modelling

  • Strong attention to detail, particularly in data quality, validation and reproducibility

  • Curious mindset with an interest in understanding what the data means—not just how to manipulate it

  • Demonstrated ability to solve structured analytical problems
