The Associate Project Manager – Strategic Initiatives sits within Strategic Enablement in the Payments Business Unit, supports the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO), and reports to the Manager, Project Management.
This role supports the operational structure and execution management of high-priority strategic initiatives across the organization by helping maintain organization, visibility, reporting, and delivery coordination, while developing foundational expertise in strategic delivery leadership, EPMO best practices, and technically complex environments.
Strategic Initiatives projects are assigned to this team due to elevated complexity, organizational impact, delivery risk, or stakeholder coordination requirements. Initiatives may be internally or externally facing and include operational improvement efforts, migrations, technology-enabled initiatives, executive-priority projects, and workstreams involving coordination across business, operational, and technical teams.
What You’ll Do
- Support execution and operational coordination across high-priority strategic initiatives
- Maintain project organization, visibility, reporting, and governance support activities across ongoing initiatives
- Coordinate project meetings, stakeholder sessions, governance cadences, and document follow-up activities
- Maintain up-to-date project plans, RAID logs, status trackers, and project documentation repositories
- Ensure initiative records are complete, accurate, organized, and up to date
- Assist in gathering stakeholder updates, tracking progress, and escalating risks, blockers, or dependencies to project leadership, Manager, Strategic Projects, and executive sponsors
- Support communication and change management activities, including documentation of decisions, ownership, action items, and next steps
- Prepare materials for cross-functional meetings, executive updates, and portfolio visibility deliverables
- Identify opportunities to improve initiative tracking and reporting workflows
- Help maintain consistency across project management best practices
- Build foundational understanding of systems, workflows, integrations, technical concepts, and delivery methodologies relevant to strategic initiatives
- Partner with stakeholders to gather information or clarify project details
- Collaborate effectively across business, operational, and technical teams to support delivery execution and stakeholder alignment
- Conduct post-mortems, lessons learned activities, and continuous improvement efforts to strengthen delivery effectiveness
What You’ll Bring to Zelis
- 2-4 years in project management, consulting, operations, or a related field required
- Experience in Healthcare Technology, Payment Operations, or Financial Services is a plus
- PMP or related certification is preferred
