Position Description:

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) in the J.B. Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville invites applications for a full-time faculty position in artificial intelligence, with an anticipated start date of Fall 2027. The position may be filled at the tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor level, or at the tenured Associate Professor level for an exceptionally qualified candidate whose record meets the applicable standards for tenure and appointment at that rank. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. To support the department’s strategic priorities, candidates from all areas of artificial intelligence are encouraged to apply, including but not limited to trustworthy AI, AI security, generative AI and foundation models, AI agents, AI systems, multimodal AI, human-centered AI, and robotics and embodied AI. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and sustain an active, externally funded research program in artificial intelligence; publish high-quality scholarly work; teach undergraduate and graduate courses; advise and mentor students; contribute to the continued development of the department’s artificial intelligence curriculum and research activities; participate in departmental, school, university, and professional service; and contribute to the broader mission of the department.


Minimum Qualifications


Applicants must:

●       Hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field by the date of appointment.

●       Demonstrate expertise in artificial intelligence through research and scholarship.

●       Demonstrate the potential for excellence in research, teaching, student mentoring, and service.

●       Demonstrate the potential to develop and sustain an externally funded research program.

●       Be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in artificial intelligence and contribute to instruction in core computer science or computer engineering areas.


Candidates considered for appointment at the Associate Professor level must also demonstrate a sustained record of a strong, externally funded research program and accomplishment in scholarly work, teaching, and service appropriate to the rank. Exceptionally qualified candidates may be considered for appointment with tenure, who must have an outstanding record of accomplishments and credentials that meet the applicable standards for tenure and appointment at the Associate Professor level in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the J.B. Speed School of Engineering. The candidates should also demonstrate strong momentum and a clear commitment to continued excellence and contributions in research, teaching, and service.
