About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an accomplished academic leader to shape the future of Biomedical Science at RMIT. As the Associate Professor, you will drive excellence in teaching, research and engagement, influencing the direction of the discipline within the School, across the University and through partnerships with community, professional, commercial and industry stakeholders.
You will make a distinguished contribution to curriculum innovation, student outcomes and research growth, while helping shape strategic priorities for the School. The role offers scope to lead high-performing teams, strengthen external partnerships, supervise higher degree research candidates and contribute to major academic initiatives across learning and teaching, research and scholarship. This appointment may also provide opportunities for broader academic leadership within the School.
About You
You are a collaborative and forward-thinking academic who is motivated by meaningful impact in teaching, research and leadership.
To thrive in this role, you will bring:
A strong track record in teaching Biomedical Science, with expertise in areas such as Physiology, Pathophysiology and Cell and Molecular Biology.
Demonstrated success in designing and delivering innovative, student-centred curriculum, assessment and work-integrated learning experiences.
A nationally recognised research profile, with a substantial publication record in high-quality outlets and growing international standing, ideally aligned to priority areas such as respiratory science, neuroscience, cardiovascular disease or clinical translation.
Proven research leadership, including building collaborative teams, supervising higher degree by research candidates and securing external research funding.
The ability to lead academic staff, foster scholarly development and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing culture.
A strong understanding of university governance, financial management and quality assurance frameworks.
Highly developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, with the capacity to engage senior leaders, external partners and diverse stakeholders.
A demonstrated ability to contribute as a trusted member of a leadership team that delivers shared goals and strategic outcomes.
Qualifications
Mandatory: PhD in relevant field.

Primarily based at the RMIT Bundoora campus, we undertake teaching and research across the disciplines of: Biomedical Science, Laboratory Medicine, Medical Radiations, Nursing, Osteopathy, Chiropractic, Chinese Medicine, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Science, Physiotherapy and Psychology.
The School’s research was ranked as well above world standard in clinical science, complementary and alternative medicine, medical physiology, microbiology and pharmacology & pharmaceutical sciences, and above world standard in psychology, public health & health service and medical & health sciences. We have a strategic focus on chronic disease and integrative health care with globally distinctive research strengths in respiratory health, neuroinflammation, translational immunology and infection, cancer diagnostics and therapeutics, and cross-cutting themes of: Lifestyle Medicine, Digital Health, Indigenous Health, Ageing in Health & Disease, and Medical Devices, Diagnostics and Prognostics.
