Your Role and ResponsibilitiesIn this role, we are looking for a Principal Software Engineer – SCADA & Industrial Automation to join our Energy Industries Digital Organization. You will provide technical leadership in the design, development, and evolution of next-generation SCADA and industrial automation software platforms while driving innovation across enterprise-scale, mission-critical applications.
Working closely with Product Management, Architects, DevOps, Quality Engineering, and global R&D teams, you will lead end-to-end product development, influence software architecture, mentor engineering teams, and deliver secure, scalable, and high-performance software solutions using C++, C#, .NET, Angular, and modern cloud-native technologies.
This role is contributing to the Energy Industries – Research & Development organization in Bangalore, India.

You will be mainly accountable for
- Lead the architecture, design, development, and lifecycle management of enterprise SCADA and industrial automation software by delivering scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions using modern full-stack technologies, industrial communication standards, and cloud-native architectures.
- Drive technical leadership by defining engineering standards, conducting architecture and code reviews, mentoring engineers, leading complex technical investigations, and collaborating with Product Management, Architecture, Quality Engineering, and global R&D teams to deliver strategic product initiatives.
- Champion engineering excellence through Agile delivery, automated testing, CI/CD, cybersecurity, performance optimization, reliability engineering, AI-assisted software development, and continuous improvement across the software development lifecycle.
- Foster innovation by evaluating and adopting emerging technologies, Generative AI, Agentic AI, and intelligent engineering practices while contributing to intellectual property, technology roadmaps, product differentiation, and long-term platform evolution.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronics, Instrumentation, or a related technical discipline.
- 12–18 years of experience in enterprise software engineering, including 5+ years developing SCADA, Industrial Automation, or mission-critical real-time software systems.
- Strong expertise in C++, C#, .NET Core, ASP.NET Web APIs, Angular, TypeScript, enterprise application architecture, distributed systems, and full-stack software development.
- Extensive experience with SCADA architectures, Industrial Communication Protocols (OPC UA, IEC 60870-5-104, DNP3, Modbus, MQTT), SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Historian systems, and high-availability industrial platforms.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure or AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, microservices, event-driven architectures, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps, and OT cybersecurity principles (IEC 62443).
- Familiarity with Generative AI, Agentic AI, AI-assisted software engineering tools (GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT), and modern engineering productivity practices is highly desirable.
- Excellent technical leadership, stakeholder management, mentoring, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to drive innovation, engineering excellence, and strategic technology initiatives.

Skills Required
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronics, Instrumentation, or related engineering discipline
- 12-18 years of professional software development experience
- Minimum 5+ years developing SCADA, industrial automation, or mission-critical real-time systems

- Frontend development using Angular, TypeScript, RxJS, and NgRx
- Multithreaded, distributed, and performance-critical software development experience
- Database design, optimization, and performance tuning with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Polyhedra DBMS
- Experience with industrial communication protocols: OPC UA, OPC DA, OPC HDA, IEC 60870-5-104, DNP3, Modbus, MQTT
- Design and implementation of REST APIs, web services, real-time communication frameworks, and distributed system architectures
- Strong knowledge of software design patterns, SOLID principles, object-oriented design, and secure coding practices
- Experience with Agile development, Azure DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, and code quality practices
- Understanding of OT cybersecurity concepts and IEC 62443
- Troubleshooting, debugging, root-cause analysis, and system performance optimization skills
- Experience using AI-assisted software engineering tools (GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT) to improve productivity and quality
- Containerized deployments using Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with Azure or AWS cloud technologies
- Experience building microservices and event-driven architectures for scalable distributed systems
- Experience with SCADAvantage architecture, RTRDB, Historian, Alarm & Event Management, redundancy, failover, and disaster recovery
- Domain knowledge in Energy, Pipeline, Utility, Power, Water, or Process Automation
- Proven technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and participating in architecture and design reviews
- Experience applying Generative AI and Agentic AI concepts within software development and testing
- Contributions to patents, invention disclosures, technical publications, or innovation programs
