Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to initiate and drive technology, software, product, and/or solution development using in-depth technical expertise in a specific area. Each day, you will act as the first point of contact in Research and Development (R&D) for in-depth product or technology-related issues. You will also showcase your expertise by supporting strategic corporate technology management and future product/software/solution architecture.

This role is contributing to the R&D Software Product Development in the Automation Business Area, Energy Industries in the Bangalore location and will be reporting to the R&D Team Manager. Main stakeholders are the Product Managers, Engineering teams and Test teams.
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Investing efforts into expanding competence portfolio beyond the area of specialization, assimilating developments in complementary technologies, tools, and methodologies, and integrating learnings into daily activities.
- Design, develop, maintain, and enhance SCADAvantage or other software components and product features using modern full-stack development technologies.
- Take end-to-end ownership of product features from requirements analysis through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, maintenance, and customer support.
- Develop responsive and intuitive user interfaces using Angular and modern web technologies while ensuring seamless integration with backend services and industrial data sources.
- Design and implement high-performance backend services, APIs, real-time communication solutions, and database services.
- Develop and maintain industrial communication interfaces supporting OPC UA, IEC 104, DNP3, Modbus, MQTT, and related protocols.
- Build scalable, reliable, and maintainable software solutions for mission-critical SCADA and industrial automation applications.
- Provide technical leadership for major product features, technology initiatives, and engineering projects with significant business and customer impact.
- Participate in software architecture, technical design reviews, technology roadmap discussions, and engineering decision-making processes.
- Lead technical investigations and resolve complex product and customer issues through structured root-cause analysis and systematic problem-solving techniques.
- Proactively identify and mitigate technical, architectural, cybersecurity, reliability, performance, and quality risks throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Drive software quality through code reviews, automated testing, static analysis, continuous integration, engineering best practices, and preventive quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Architects, Quality Assurance, DevOps, and global R&D teams to deliver customer-focused software solutions.
- Mentor junior engineers, promote technical excellence, and actively share knowledge across teams and communities of practice.
- Continuously expand technical expertise beyond core specialization by adopting emerging technologies, engineering methodologies, modern development tools, AI-enabled engineering practices, and complementary domain knowledge relevant to industrial automation and SCADA solutions.
- Contribute to innovation initiatives, invention disclosures, intellectual property development, patent generation, and technology advancement activities.
- Monitor industry trends, relevant standards, emerging technologies, and competitor innovations to identify opportunities for differentiation, technology leadership, and strategic IP development.
- Support cybersecurity, redundancy, failover, disaster recovery, reliability, and maintainability requirements of industrial software systems.
- Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate software design, coding, debugging, testing, code reviews, technical documentation, and knowledge management while maintaining high standards of quality, security, and maintainability.
- Identify and drive opportunities to improve engineering productivity through AI-powered development, testing, automation, and software lifecycle optimization.
- Evaluate, adopt, and promote emerging AI, Generative AI, and Agentic AI technologies that enhance developer productivity, product innovation, software quality, and customer value.
- Participate actively in Agile (Scrum/Kanban) ceremonies and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the software development lifecycle.
Qualifications for the role
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronics, Instrumentation, or a related engineering discipline with core software development experience.
- 12– 18 years of professional software development experience.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience developing SCADA, Industrial Automation, or mission-critical real-time software systems.
- Full-stack software development using C++, C#, .NET Core, ASP.NET Web APIs, Entity Framework, Angular, TypeScript, RxJS, and NgRx.
- Design and development of scalable enterprise applications across frontend, backend, database, and deployment layers.
- Multithreaded, distributed, and performance-critical software development.
- SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Polyhedra DBMS, database design, optimization, and performance tuning.
- SCADA systems, Industrial Automation, Real-Time Monitoring and Control Systems.
- OPC UA, OPC DA, OPC HDA, IEC 60870-5-104, DNP3, Modbus, MQTT, and other industrial communication protocols.
- REST APIs, Web Services, real-time communication frameworks, and distributed system architectures.
