About the roleDyson has a strong and influential Quality and Safety business function. The Safety team is categorised into two primary streams: one dedicated to managing and driving safety in new projects under development, and the other focused on addressing and learning from safety-related issues that may arise in the field. This role is to strengthen the project safety team by leading safety requirements agreement and overseeing the successful implementation of these requirements throughout the product development process.
Function Overview
Reporting to the Product Safety Senior Manager, this role primarily concerns bringing proven safety experience to Dyson to deploy onto exciting new products in development. The primary accountabilities are below:
Lead the process of collaboratively defining and establishing safety requirements across Design, and Development for various projects. Effectively manage the evaluation of test results to demonstrate the fulfilment of safety requirements, ultimately ensuring the approval of safety for production.
Collaborate closely with RDD engineers to ensure comprehensive adherence to safety deliverables, recording and approval within the project life cycle up to the manufacturing launch (start of production).
Take ownership of project safety risks, ensuring thorough assessments and implementing necessary mitigations with proper verification when required. Advocate best practices through the facilitation of safety risk assessments, including FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis, and Hazard Identification.
Contribute expertise to safety risk assessments during PFMEA reviews. Identify Critical To Safety (CTS) processes during production line reviews and advocate best practices through consultation.
Independently manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring strict compliance with all relevant safety requirements.
Serve as Home BU representative, coordinating necessary actions directed by the Product Safety Committee in collaboration with development teams.
Adopt a proactive approach in designing and enhancing robust solutions, addressing technical challenges across projects.
Act as a subject matter expert in the field of safety, sharing knowledge and mentoring engineers in methodologies, best practices, and standards.
Proactively identify technical risks within projects, taking a lead role in influencing engineering teams to resolve issues and actively participating in the design and testing of engineering solutions.
Possess a degree in a relevant engineering or science discipline, supplemented by post-graduate experience in an engineering role, preferably in safety or reliability.
Showcase a robust industrial background in safety engineering and product safety, including active involvement in generating safety cases and reports.
Proficient in developing safety plans, conducting FTA studies, creating safety requirement specifications, leading functional safety assessments, and employing HAZID/HAZOP techniques. Capable of formulating or reviewing verification and validation test procedures.
Exhibit technical expertise to independently review others' work and establish, compile, and maintain formal documentation like Safety Plans or Safety Cases at a high professional standard.
Display agility in changing priorities and adeptness in delivering across projects with varying priorities and paces. Demonstrates a results-driven approach.
Possess excellent communication skills, capable of simplifying complex technical subjects for a diverse audience. Confident in presenting intricate technical matters.
Embrace an open and cooperative approach, demonstrating empathy towards others and maintaining a pleasant and collaborative outlook. A dedicated team player.
