Flex intends to spin off its Cloud and Power Infrastructure segment into a new, independent publicly traded company, which we’re calling SpinCo, until the name is unveiled. The spin is planned for Q1 2027. If the intended spin occurs, this role will support SpinCo, which will focus on critical digital infrastructure, delivering end-to-end power and thermal management solutions for AI data centers and other mission-critical applications.
To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add a Associate Principal Engineer, Electrical Engineering located in Austin, TX.
Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the Associate Principal Engineer, Electrical Engineering will serve as a technical leader responsible for the design, development, integration, validation, and lifecycle support of electrical systems that enable next-generation AI and high-performance computing infrastructure. This role develops electrical architectures, power distribution solutions, control systems, and supporting hardware that connect rack, cluster, and facility-level infrastructure into scalable, intelligent, and highly reliable data center platforms. The position provides technical leadership throughout the product development lifecycle, including requirements definition, architecture development, component selection, validation, manufacturability, deployment readiness, and operational performance optimization.
What a typical day looks like:
- Develop electrical architectures and technical specifications for AI data center infrastructure platforms.
- Design and validate electrical power distribution systems supporting high-density compute, networking, storage, and cooling environments.
- Define electrical requirements, component selection criteria, system interconnects, and control architectures with consideration for scalability, reliability, lifecycle management, and cost optimization.
- Lead electrical analysis, simulation, validation, troubleshooting, root-cause investigations, and complex system integration activities.
- Partner with Systems Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Cooling Engineering, Software, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality teams to deliver integrated platform solutions.
- Support prototype builds, technology validation, customer demonstrations, new product introduction (NPI), manufacturing readiness, and commercial deployments.
- Participate in architecture reviews, technology assessments, innovation initiatives, technical roadmap development, and mentoring of engineering teams.
The experience we’re looking to add to our team:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline; Master’s degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in electrical design, power systems, data center infrastructure, hardware product development, industrial systems, or mission-critical infrastructure environments.
- Proven experience leading electrical design and development from concept through validation, manufacturing readiness, and deployment.
- Strong expertise in electrical architecture, power distribution systems, power conversion technologies, controls, telemetry, monitoring systems, and infrastructure integration.
- Experience developing electrical requirements, specifications, schematics, validation plans, commissioning procedures, and qualification protocols.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional engineering teams, influence technical strategy, and resolve complex electrical and system integration challenges.
- Exceptional customer-facing, leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to mentor engineers and drive technical excellence across multiple programs.
